This narrative review explores the benefits and risks of cannabinoids in kidney health, particularly in individuals with pre-existing renal conditions. It discusses the roles of cannabinoid receptor ligands (phytocannabinoids, synthetic cannabinoids, and endocannabinoids) in kidney physiology. The metabolism and excretion of these substances are also highlighted, with partial elimination occurring via the kidneys.

Obesity and its related diseases, such as type 2 diabetes (T2DM), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and metabolic fatty liver disease (MAFLD), require new diagnostic markers for earlier detection and intervention. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the potential of metabolomics as a tool for identifying biomarkers associated with obesity and its comorbidities in every age group. The presented systematic review makes an important contribution to the understanding of the potential of metabolomics in identifying biomarkers of obesity and its complications, especially considering the influence of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), amino acids (AAs) and adipokines on the development of T2DM, MAFLD, and CVD.

Background: Leptin is a hormone which is secreted by the adipocytes. In the circulation, leptin levels are directly proportional to the body fat percentage. Studies have shown that higher leptin levels are associated with an increased risk of hypertension after adjusting for body mass index (BMI).

Background: Previous studies showed a high conversion rate and failure of restrictive procedures, including sleeve gastrectomy (SG), adjustable gastric banding (AGB), gastric plication (GP), and vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) in a long-term follow-up. The current study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a revisional one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) for weight loss and treatment of obesity-related problems after primary metabolic and bariatric restrictive procedures.
Methods: A retrospective study on prospectively collected data was conducted on a sample of 151 patients who experienced insufficient weight loss or weight regain after primary restrictive surgeries and underwent OAGB as a revisional procedure.

Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by persistent low-grade tissue and systemic inflammation. Fat accumulation in adipose tissue (AT) leads to stress and dysfunctional adipocytes, along with the infiltration of immune cells, which initiates and sustains inflammation. Neutrophils are the first immune cells to infiltrate AT during high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity.
