Traumatic musculotendinous junction avulsions are rare injuries except in avulsion amputations. They pose a significant challenge to the treating surgeon. We present a 24-year-old male who sustained an open musculotendinous avulsion of the flexor pollicis longus tendon. He was treated with primary tendon transfer using the flexor digitorum superficialis of ring finger, in flexor zone 3. The functional result at 10 months following surgery was excellent.

Background: Muscle edema formation and inflammatory processes are early manifestations of acute rotator cuff lesions in sheep. Histological analysis of affected muscles revealed edema formation, inflammatory changes, and muscle tissue disruption in MRs.
Hypothesis: Edema contributes to inflammatory reactions and early muscle fiber degeneration before the onset of fatty infiltration.

Upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the axillary/subclavian veins is rare (5-10% of DVT). After clinical suspicion and duplex ultrasound, anticoagulation, surgical decompression and sometimes thrombolysis are mandatory due to complications. We discuss the case of a young healthy orchestra conductor with primary DVT of the left upper extremity and concomitant left shoulder musculo-tendinous traumatic injury.

Heparin, a mixture of sulfated polymorphic polysaccharides (glycosaminoglycan) chains of variable lengths and weights and a natural anticoagulant, is widely used in medical practice to prevent intravascular blood coagulation. Heparin has demonstrated antithrombotic and anti-inflammatory activity, and it is mostly administered systemically (intravenously or subcutaneously) for primary or secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism after surgical interventions, or immobilized patients, or on short-term antithrombotic therapy of patients with atrial fibrillation who must undergo treatment. However, since systemic administration of heparin could be, in certain cases, linked to an increased risk of bleeding, topical heparin is widely used for the prevention and treatment of local symptoms of peripheral vascular disorders, such as venous insufficiency, varicose veins, or superficial thrombophlebitis.
