Study protocol for the Healthy Family Program on population blood pressure: a multicenter, parallel group, cluster randomized, controlled trial in rural China.

Am Heart J

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University; National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases; Beijing, China; Heart Health Research Center, Beijing, China; Ruyang Rural Health Institute, Henan Province, China. Electronic address:

Background: We aim to determine the effectiveness of a community-based, health instructor led, multifaceted family intervention, as compared with usual care, on blood pressure (BP) management among Chinese rural residents, with or without hypertension.

Methods/design: The Healthy Family Program is a cluster randomized controlled trial being undertaken in 80 villages (each with approximately 100 residents) with a target to enroll a total of 8000 older adults (aged 40-80 years). Villages were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either an intervention group to receive multifaceted strategies or a control group to continue with usual standard of care.

Background: Cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) reflects the ability of cerebral blood vessels to adjust their diameter in response to vasoactive stimuli, which is crucial for maintaining brain health. Traditional CVR assessments commonly use a two-point measurement, assuming a linear relationship between cerebral blood flow (CBF) and arterial CO. However, this approach fails to capture non-linear characteristics, particularly the plateaus at extreme CO levels.

Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK; Diabetes and Antenatal Care, Norfolk and Norwich NHS Foundation Trust, Norwich, UK. Electronic address:

Background: Clinical guidelines in the UK and elsewhere do not specifically address hybrid closed loop (HCL) use in the postpartum period when the demands of caring for a newborn are paramount. Our aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of HCL use during the first 6 months postpartum compared with standard care.

Methods: In this prespecified extension to a multicentre, randomised controlled trial, pregnant women with type 1 diabetes at nine UK sites were followed up for 6 months postpartum.
