The collective detrimental impact of aged naive lymphocytes and thymus atrophy on the aging of the immune system can be mitigated by exercise. Hence, this research aims to explore the effects of three methods of water-based exercises on immune system aging and thymus atrophy in elderly rats. Thirty-two 24-month-old rats, with an average weight of 320 ± 5 g, were randomly allocated into four groups of endurance training (n = 8), resistance training (n = 8), combined training (n = 8), and control (n = 8).

Celiac disease is one of the most common lifelong autoimmune disorders and is currently understood as a genetically determined immune intolerance to gluten. In genetically predisposed individuals, the consumption of gluten, along with additional environmental factors, triggers an immunological reaction in the small intestinal epithelium, leading to the destruction of the mucosal architecture with villous atrophy. This can be asymptomatic, but may also cause a wide range of symptoms and lead to systemic complications, such as osteoporosis or infertility.

While many genetic tools exist for zebrafish, this animal model still lacks robust gene-silencing and microRNA-delivery technologies enabling spatio-temporal control and traceability. We have recently demonstrated that engineered pri-miR backbones can trigger stable gene knockdown and/or express microRNA(s) of choice in this organism. However, this miRNA-expressing technology presents important limitations.

Currently, Unilateral biportal endoscopy is widely used in the surgical treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. To investigate the feasibility of bilateral synchronous UBE to unilateral laminotomy and bilateral decompression(BS-UBE-ULBD) for treating two-level lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS). Sarcopenia is an age-related muscle senescence disease that leads to functional limitations, physical disability and premature death in older adults. Atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is a novel indicator of atherosclerotic status based on triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between AIP and new-onset sarcopenia and its components among middle-aged and older adults in a Chinese community.
