Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with a range of non-cognitive symptoms that can be early or even presenting features. Better recognition of pre-diagnostic symptoms of AD would support improved early detection and diagnosis.
Method: To identify possible prodromal symptoms of AD, we systematically searched three electronic databases for prospective longitudinal studies to March 2023, that reported the risk of AD diagnosis associated with non-cognitive symptoms.

Background: Autonomic dysfunction has been linked to empathy deficits in symptomatic frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), but less is known about pre-symptomatic FTD mutation carriers (preFTD+). Our prior work found that increasing resting heart rate (RHR) over time predicts decline in emotional empathy in preFTD+. Here, we replicate previous findings in a large, multi-site consortium sample and assess relationships between RHR and empathy loss across disease stages.

Background: Acoustic challenges impose demands on cognitive resources, known as listening effort (LE), which can substantially influence speech perception and communication. Standardized assessment protocols for monitoring LE are lacking, hindering the development of adaptive hearing assistive technology.
New Method: We employed an adaptive protocol, including a speech-in-noise test and personalized definition of task demand, to assess LE and its physiological correlates.

Objective: Corpus callosum (CC) damage is the most consistent and typical change in early Parkinson's disease (PD), and is associated with various PD symptoms. However, the precise relationship between CC subregions and specific PD symptoms have not been identified comprehensively. In this study, we investigated the association between specific CC subregion alterations and PD symptoms using diffusion-weighted imaging.

Introduction: The diagnosis of diseases known as synucleinopathies, Parkinson's disease (PD), multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Lewy body dementia (DLB), is predominantly based on clinical criteria. However, diagnostic uncertainty may persist until late in the disease process leading to delays in diagnosis and medical mismanagement. Skin biopsy detection of phosphorylated alpha-synuclein (P-SYN) is a sensitive and specific technique that increases diagnostic sensitivity of synucleinopathies, although the clinical utility of this test has not been fully explored.
