Anxiety symptoms vary moment-to-moment within a day. One factor that may influence these variations is chronotype. Evening chronotypes prefer to engage in activities (e.

Many plants exhibit circadian clock-driven leaf movements whereby the leaves are raised during the day to achieve a relatively high angle during the evening, before lowering late in the night. Such leaf movements were first recorded over 2000 years ago but there is still much debate as to their purpose. We investigated whether such leaf movements within Arabidopsis, a ruderal rosette plant, can aid in overtopping leaves of neighboring plants.

Caffeine's wakefulness-promoting and sleep-disrupting effects are well established, yet whether caffeine affects human circadian timing is unknown. We show that evening caffeine consumption delays the human circadian melatonin rhythm in vivo and that chronic application of caffeine lengthens the circadian period of molecular oscillations in vitro, primarily with an adenosine receptor/cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP)-dependent mechanism. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, ~49-day long, within-subject study, we found that consumption of a caffeine dose equivalent to that in a double espresso 3 hours before habitual bedtime induced a ~40-min phase delay of the circadian melatonin rhythm in humans.

Several reports have demonstrated that the efficacy of latanoprost is influenced by the time of dosing. This model-based meta-analysis validates previous findings that evening dosing is superior to morning dosing and predicts the optimal time for dosing, based on the quantitative assessment of baseline and latanoprost-treated 24-h circadian intraocular pressure (IOP) curves. The results confirm the importance of the time of dosing as a factor that influences the extent of reduction in IOP and underline the need to take this factor into consideration in the design of glaucoma trials and therapy.
