Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a constant and very frequent causative agent of the acute respiratory infections, especially of pneumonias. Common etiologic, epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of this agent are described through a general review. New knowledge about pathogenesis and immunity is reported. Diagnostic procedures, treatment and prevention of the disease are mentioned as well.
