A 42-year-old male patient was admitted to the Department of General Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology (Luoyang, China) presenting with abdominal discomfort. Enhanced computed tomography of the abdomen revealed a 15.1×7.0-cm, enhanced, double-spherical, exogenous, solid tumor originating from the left lateral hepatic lobe, in addition to a 4.3×4.2-cm mass in the mid portion of the left kidney. Pre-operative imaging analysis resulted in the diagnosis of double cancer, consisting of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The patient subsequently underwent left hemihepatectomy and left nephrectomy. Histological examination confirmed that the tumor originating from the left lateral hepatic lobe was HCC, and the tumor arising from the mid portion of the left kidney was clear cell RCC (ccRCC). The post-operative follow-up was uneventful. To the best of our knowledge, the present case is the first of its kind to describe the resection of synchronous double cancer, consisting of primary HCC and ccRCC.

Chirality epitomizes the sophistication of chemistry, representing some of its most remarkable achievements. Yet, the precise synthesis of chiral structures from achiral building blocks remains a profound and enduring challenge in synthetic chemistry and materials science. Here, we demonstrate that achiral colloidal nanocrystals, including Au and Ag nanocrystals, can assemble into long-range-ordered helical assemblies with the assistance of chiral molecules.

The record-breaking 2019-2020 Australian wildfires have been primarily linked to climate change and its internal variability. However, the meteorological feedback mechanisms affecting smoke dispersion and wildfire emissions on a synoptic scale remain unclear. This study focused on the largest wildfires occurring between December 25, 2019 and January 10, 2020, under the enhanced subtropical high, when the double peak in wildfire evolution was favored by sustained low humidity and two synchronous increases in temperature and wind.

Current temporal studies of DNA replication are either low-resolution or require complex cell synchronisation and/or sorting procedures. Here we introduce Nanotiming, a single-molecule, nanopore sequencing-based method producing high-resolution, telomere-to-telomere replication timing (RT) profiles of eukaryotic genomes by interrogating changes in intracellular dTTP concentration during S phase through competition with its analogue bromodeoxyuridine triphosphate (BrdUTP) for incorporation into replicating DNA. This solely demands the labelling of asynchronously growing cells with an innocuous dose of BrdU during one doubling time followed by BrdU quantification along nanopore reads.

Hafnium (Hf)-based nanoscale metal-organic layers (MOLs) enhance radiotherapeutic effects of tissue-penetrating X-rays via a unique radiotherapy-radiodynamic therapy (RT-RDT) process through efficient generation of hydroxy radical (RT) and singlet oxygen (RDT). However, their radiotherapeutic efficacy is limited by hypoxia in deep-seated tumors and short half-lives of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Herein the conjugation of a nitric oxide (NO) donor, S-nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penicillamine (SNAP), to the Hf secondary building units (SBUs) of Hf-5,5'-di-p-benzoatoporphyrin MOL is reported to afford SNAP/MOL for enhanced cancer radiotherapy.

Background: The Resection and Partial Liver Transplantation with Delayed Total Hepatectomy (RAPID) procedure for unresectable colorectal liver metastases (uCRLM) has renewed interest by increasing, in selected cases, patients' long-term survival. Initially described using deceased donor graft, this technique evolved to living donors, tackling organ-shortage issues, allowing better scheduling, and reducing liver failure risk.
Methods: A 50-year-old patient presented 18 months earlier with a colic adenocarcinoma with synchronous uCRLM.
