Glaucoma is now regarded as a neurodegenerative disorder. A number of theories including the mechanical and vascular models have been used to explain the pathogenesis of glaucoma. However, there is now increasing evidence of biochemical molecules which may play a part in it's causation. These biochemical mechanisms include the role of excitatory aminoacids, caspases, protein kinases, oxygen free radicals, nitric oxide, TNF-alpha, neurotrophins and metalloproteins. This paper reviews these new developments which form the biochemical basis of glaucomatous neural degeneration. How to cite this article: Ahmad SS, Ghani SA, Rajagopal TH. Previous studies have suggested that ginsenoside Rg glycine ester derivative (RG) exhibits therapeutic potential in mitigating hypoxia. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism of RG in hypoxia injury through a combined approach of metabolomics and network pharmacology. Initially, a CoCl-induced cell hypoxia model was established, and the therapeutic impact of RG on biochemical indices was evaluated.

Neuroendocrine tumors are a diverse group of tumors predominantly found in the gastrointestinal tract or respiratory system. : This retrospective study aimed to measure the serum concentrations of LRP6 (low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6), SFRP3 (secreted frizzled-related protein 3), and DVL1 (segment polarity protein dishevelled homolog) using the ELISA method in patients with NETs (N = 80) and a control group (N = 62). We evaluated the results against various demographic, clinicopathological, and biochemical characteristics.

Background: Aging induces degenerative processes in the body, contributing to the onset of various age-associated diseases that affect the population. Inadequate dietary habits and low physical activity are major contributors to increased morbidity during aging. This study aimed to investigate the combined effects of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation and physical activity on the markers of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense mechanisms in aged male Wistar rats (23-24 months).

() is an important medicinal plant in the Aconitum genus that is known for its diterpenoid alkaloids, which exhibit significant pharmacological activity and toxicity, thus making it valuable for both medicinal use and as a biopesticide. Although the biosynthesis of terpenoids is well characterized, the potential gene regulatory role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in terpenoid biosynthesis in remains unclear, and further research is needed to explore this aspect in this species. In this study, miRNA sequencing was conducted to analyze the miRNA population and its targets in .

While ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation has beneficial applications, it can also pose risks to living organisms. Nevertheless, a detailed assessment of UVC radiation's effects on mammalian male reproductive physiology, including the underlying mechanisms and potential protective strategies, has not yet been accomplished. This study aimed to examine the critical roles of oxidative stress, autophagy, reproductive hormonal axis, and microRNAs in UVC-induced reproductive challenges in male rats.
