Edge map analysis in chest X-rays for automatic pulmonary abnormality screening.

Purpose: Our particular motivator is the need for screening HIV+ populations in resource-constrained regions for the evidence of tuberculosis, using posteroanterior chest radiographs (CXRs).

Method: The proposed method is motivated by the observation that abnormal CXRs tend to exhibit corrupted and/or deformed thoracic edge maps. We study histograms of thoracic edges for all possible orientations of gradients in the range [Formula: see text] at different numbers of bins and different pyramid levels, using five different regions-of-interest selection.

Results: We have used two CXR benchmark collections made available by the U.S. National Library of Medicine and have achieved a maximum abnormality detection accuracy (ACC) of 86.36 % and area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.93 at 1 s per image, on average.

Conclusion: We have presented an automatic method for screening pulmonary abnormalities using thoracic edge map in CXR images. The proposed method outperforms previously reported state-of-the-art results.

Electronic band evolution between Lieb and kagome nanoribbons.

We investigate the electronic properties of nanoribbons made out of monolayer Lieb, transition, and kagome lattices using the tight-binding model with a generic Hamiltonian. It allows us to map the evolutionary stages of the interconvertibility process between Lieb and kagome nanoribbons by means of only one control parameter. Results for the energy spectra, the density of states, and spatial probability density distributions are discussed for nanoribbons with three types of edges: straight, bearded, and asymmetric.

Introduction: Pests are important factors affecting the growth of cotton, and it is a challenge to accurately detect cotton pests under complex natural conditions, such as low-light environments. This paper proposes a low-light environments cotton pest detection method, DCP-YOLOv7x, based on YOLOv7x, to address the issues of degraded image quality, difficult feature extraction, and low detection precision of cotton pests in low-light environments.

Methods: The DCP-YOLOv7x method first enhances low-quality cotton pest images using FFDNet (Fast and Flexible Denoising Convolutional Neural Network) and the EnlightenGAN low-light image enhancement network.

Lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LPE) is a bioactive lipid mediator involved in diverse cellular functions. In this study, we investigated the effects of three LPE species, 1-palmitoyl LPE (16:0 LPE), 1-stearoyl LPE (18:0 LPE), and 1-oleoyl LPE (18:1 LPE) on pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells.
