Four new 2,3-secodammarane triterpenoids, stellatonins A-D (3-6), together with a new 3,4-secodammarane triterpenoid, stellatonin E (7), and the known silvestrol (1), 5‴-episilvestrol (2), and β-sitosterol, were isolated from a methanol extract of the stems of Aglaia stellatopilosa through bioassay-guided fractionation. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated using spectroscopic and chemical methods. The compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against three human cancer cell lines and for their antimicrobial activity using a microtiter plate assay against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and fungi.

Six previously undescribed 2, 9-deoxyflavonoids (1/2a, 1/2b, 6, and 7), along with six known compounds (3-5, and 8-10), were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Aglaia odorata. Their structures were determined by a combination of spectral analysis, ECD calculation and enzymatic hydrolysis assay. Surprisingly, (±) aglaindanone E (11a, 11b) were unexpectedly formed as the derivatives of compounds 3-6 when exposed to ambient natural light.

Triterpenoids from the have been shown cytotoxicity on a broad spectrum of human tumor cells. In the present study, we extracted triterpenoids AA-5 (1) and AA-6 (2) from stems of , and studied their cytotoxicity in multidrug resistant (MDR) MCF-7/ADM cells. After 48 h treatment, AA-5 (1) and AA-6 (2) significantly increased mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis by enhancing reactive oxygen species (ROS) with depressed mitochondrial membrane potential and caspase-9 activities.

HPLC-guided separation of twigs of Aglaia odorata led to the isolation of eight lignans, including two new ones, 3'-methoxy-N-demethylrocaglamide (1) and 4'-O-demethyl-deacetylaglaxiflorin A (2). Compound 1 showed excellent cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines, HeLa, SGC-7901 gastric cancer, and A-549 lung cancer with the values of 0.32, 0.
