Schistosomiasis, caused by trematodes of genus Schistosoma, is among the most seriously neglected tropical diseases. Although rapid surveillance of risk areas for Schistosoma transmission is vital to control schistosomiasis, the habitat and infection status of this parasite are difficult to assess. Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, involving the detection of extra-organismal DNA in water samples, facilitates cost-efficient and sensitive biomonitoring of aquatic environments and is a promising tool to identify Schistosoma habitat and infection risk areas.

Objective: To compare the efficiency of multiple etiological techniques for detection of infections in wild mice, so as to provide technical supports to assessment of schistosomiasis transmission risk.

Methods: Wild mice were captured with baited traps at night in snail-infested settings in schistosomiasis-endemic foci of Anhui Province from October to November, 2022. infections were detected in wild mice using microscopy of mouse liver tissues, microscopy of mouse mesenteric tissues, microscopy of mouse liver tissue homogenates, miracidial hatching test of mouse liver tissue homogenates, Kato-Katz technique and miracidial hatching test of mouse stool samples alone and in combinations.

Schistosomiasis is a major public health concern worldwide. Although praziquantel is currently available as the only treatment option for schistosomiasis, the absence of reliable diagnostic and prognostic tools highlights the need for the identification and characterization of new drug targets. Recently, we identified the B.

Schistosomiasis is a snail-born, neglected tropical disease (NTD) caused by blood flukes (trematode worms) of the genusSchistosoma. It is the second most socioeconomically devastating parasitic disease after malaria. Urogenital schistosomiasis is caused by Schistosoma haematobium which is transmitted by snail intermediate host of the genus Bulinus.

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease that seriously endangers human health and affects socioeconomic developments. Artificial intelligence technology has been widely used in clinical medical sciences, including tumor screening, and electrocardiogram, imaging and pathological analyses, which has potential for precision control of schistosomiasis. Currently, artificial intelligence technology has been employed for clinical assessment of schistosomiasis-associated hepatic fibrosis and ectopic schistosomiasis, prognostic prediction of advanced schistosomiasis, automated identification of and eggs and miracidia, epidemiological surveillance of schistosomiasis, and drug discovery.
