European biologic training course for type 2 inflammation by EUFOREA in 2024: key facts and lessons learned.

The European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airways diseases (EUFOREA) organized the first European Biologic Training Course (EBTC) in Brussels on 1st March 2024. The aim of this hybrid EBTC including both face-to-face and web-based participation was to address the educational needs of physicians dealing with asthma and Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps (CRSwNP) on the clinically relevant aspects of diagnosing and treatment with biologics. EUFOREA is an international non-for-profit organization forming an alliance of all stakeholders dedicated to reducing the prevalence and burden of chronic respiratory diseases through the implementation of optimal patient care via educational, research, and advocacy activities.

Brain tumor-related epilepsy (BTRE) is a rare disease in which brain tumor (BT) and epilepsy overlap simultaneously and can have a negative impact on a patient's neuropsychological, behavioral, and quality of life (QoL) spheres. In this review we (a) addressed the main neuropsychological, behavioral, and QoL issues that may occur in BTRE patients, (b) described how BT, BTRE, and their respective treatments can impact these domains, and (c) identified tools and standardized evaluation methodologies specific for BTRE patients. Neuropsychological disorders and behavioral issues can be direct consequences of BTRE and all related treatments, such as surgery, anti-cancer and anti-seizure medication, corticosteroids, etc.

In response to the increasing significance of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, there has been increased attention - including a Presidential executive order to create an AI Safety Institute - to the potential threats posed by AI. While much attention has been given to the conventional risks AI poses to cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure, here we provide an overview of some unique challenges of AI for the medical community. Above and beyond obvious concerns about vetting algorithms that impact patient care, there are additional subtle yet equally important things to consider: the potential harm AI poses to its own integrity and the broader medical information ecosystem.
