Zinc oxide nanocrystals-methylene blue nanocomposites were developed by electrodeposition of methylene blue onto the thin films of zinc oxide nanocrystals deposited onto SnO2/F coated glass substrates for in vitro sensing of anti-thalassemic drug i.e. deferiprone. Detailed morphological, electrochemical, structural and optical characterizations of ZnONC-MB/FTO electrode were done using XRD, SEM, EIS, FTIR, LSV, and CV and show quick response time (within 5 s), linearity as 1 × 10(-3) to 10(3) μM and shelf life of about 10 weeks under refrigerated conditions. Attempts have been made to utilize this electrode for estimation of deferiprone in urine samples. The developed sensor exhibited high reproducibility and good storage stability.

In this study, a self-assembled electrochemical sensor was prepared by coating with a carbon nanotube (CNT) decorated hydrogel (HG) combined with electrodeposition of methylene blue (MB), and then used for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA). The three-dimensional network of HG has the advantages of large electroactive surface area, rapid diffusion and electron transfer rate, strong adhesive ability and stabilization of the polymerized MB. The MB provides high electrocatalytic activity and works as an electron transfer mediator to facilitate the oxidation of AA.

A series of GO/Pr/PbO electrodes were prepared by electrodeposition method, and used for the electrocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) in an electrolytic cell. The characteristic properties of the as-prepared electrodes were systematically characterized via different techniques such as XRD, SEM, and XPS. Interestingly, the ternary electrode was found to possess higher catalytic performance compared with PbO and Pr/PbO electrodes, suggested that synergistic catalytic activity existed between ternary electrode.

Epitope imprinting has shown better prospects to synthesize synthetic receptors for proteins. Here, dual epitope imprinted polymer electrode (DEIP) matrix was fabricated on gold surface of electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) for recognition of target epitope sequence in blood samples of patients suffering from brain fever. Epitope sequences from outer membrane protein Por B of Neisseria meningitidis (MC58) bacteria predicted through immunoinformatic tools were chosen for imprinting.
