In experiments with rats, a new 3-hydroxypyridine (3-HP) derivative--2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine L-asparaginate (30 mg/kg)--exhibited a strong vestibuloprotective effect which was better than of promethazine (50 mg/kg), a well-known vestibuloprotector Besides the new actoprotector was competitive with another 3-HP derivative, namely, mexidol (ethyl-methyl-hydroxypyridine succinate) (100 mg/kg). Moreover, a distinct thermoprotective effect of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine L-asparaginate (30 mg/kg) in mice was not worse than that of mexidol or metaprot (ethylthiobenzimidasol, former name bimethy), an actoprotector with good thermoprotective properties. To conclude, owing to the membrane-protective and antioxidative qualities, the vestibuloprotective and thermoprotective properties of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine L-asparaginate are better or competitive with the reference preparations.

We investigated whether the elimination of two major enzymes responsible for triacylglycerol synthesis altered the structure and physical state of organelle membranes under mild heat shock conditions in the fission yeast, . Our study revealed that key intracellular membrane structures, lipid droplets, vacuoles, the mitochondrial network, and the cortical endoplasmic reticulum were all affected in mutant fission yeast cells under mild heat shock but not under normal growth conditions. We also obtained direct evidence that triacylglycerol-deficient cells were less capable than wild-type cells of adjusting their membrane physical properties during thermal stress.

Temperature affects organisms' metabolism and ecological performance. Owing to climate change, sea warming constituting a severe source of environmental stress for marine organisms, since it increases at alarming rates. Rapid warming can exceed resilience of marine organisms leading to fitness loss and mortality.

Image-guided thermal ablation (TA), which is less invasive, has been widely applied for treating various kinds of tumors. However, TA still poses the potential risk of thermal damage to sensitive tissue nearby. Therefore, an adjunctive thermoprotective hydrodissection technique with constant injection of 5% glucose (5% Glu) has currently been adopted for clinical application, but this may be hazardous to humans.

Cells sense stress and initiate response pathways to maintain lipid and protein homeostasis. However, the interplay between these adaptive mechanisms is unclear. Herein, we demonstrate how imbalances in cytosolic protein homeostasis affect intracellular lipid surveillance.

Starch is the most abundant carbohydrate in legumes (22-45 g/100 g), with distinctive properties such as high amylose and resistant starch content, longer branch chains of amylopectin, and a C-type pattern arrangement in the granules. The present study concentrated on the investigation of hydrolyzed faba bean starch using acid, assisted by microwave energy, to obtain a possible food-grade coating material. For evaluation, the physicochemical, morphological, pasting, and structural properties were analyzed.
