Displacement chromatography was used for the preparative purification of a synthetic polypeptide that is a promising malaria vaccine. It was prepared by solid-phase synthesis and contains two important epitopes of circumsporozoite (CS) protein of Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite. With apparatus typically employed in analytical high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and on a 250 x 4.6 mm I.D. reversed-phase column, up to 50 mg of crude polypeptide were purified in a single run and with a yield higher than 95%. The results demonstrate that displacement chromatography is suitable for the isolation of several milligrams of a pure polypeptide from a complex mixture that is difficult to separate even by analytical HPLC. In such a preparative application, displacement appears to be superior to elution chromatography as used traditionally.

Understanding the dynamic characterization of the CO miscible flooding process in low permeability reservoirs and its mechanism for oil recovery enhancement is crucial for controlling CO miscible flooding sweep efficiency and further enhancing oil recovery. This study was conducted in a low permeability reservoir in Jilin, China, using both online nuclear magnetic resonance CO miscible flooding and long-core CO miscible flooding experiments. A refined dynamic characterization of the CO miscible flooding process from the macroscopic core scale to the microscopic pore scale was achieved through multiple spatial online nuclear magnetic resonance testing methods.

Acute lung injury (ALI), a systemic inflammatory response with high morbidity, lacks effective pharmacological therapies. Myeloid differentiation protein-2 (MD2) has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for ALI. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the ability of isoliquiritigenin (ISL), a natural flavonoid found in licorice as a novel MD2 inhibitor, to inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI.

Protein A075L is a β-xylosyltransferase that participates in producing the core of the N-glycans found in VP54, the major viral capsid protein of Paramecium bursaria chlorella virus-1 (PBCV-1). In this study, we present an X-ray crystallographic analysis of the apo form of A075L, along with its complexes with the sugar donor and with a trisaccharide acceptor. The protein structure shows a typical GT-B folding, with two Rossmann-like fold domains, in which the acceptor substrate binds to the N-terminal region, and the nucleotide-sugar donor binds to the C-terminal region.

The present study aimed to characterize the biosurfactants synthesized by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) obtained from fermented foods, optimize the conditions for increasing the yield of biosurfactants and explore their antimicrobial and antibiofilm potential. Out of the 26 LAB isolates, isolate BS2 showed the highest biosurfactant production as indicated in the oil displacement test, drop collapse and emulsification activity. BS2 was identified as 1625 using 16S-rRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis.
