Published: August 2016

Objective: We report the morphologic findings and treatment of spontaneous isolated dissection of the celiac artery (SIDCA).

Methods: Twenty-three patients with SIDCA presenting between January 2009 and December 2014 were enrolled in this retrospective study. The demographic data, clinical features, morphologic findings, treatment modalities, and follow-up results of these patients were reviewed. We proposed a morphologic classification for SIDCA similar to that of spontaneous isolated dissection of the superior mesenteric artery.

Results: Initially, 11 patients were treated endovascularly, and 12 were treated medically. Four patients treated medically had an aggravation of the dissection and needed endovascular salvage. All patients recovered successfully. None of the patients developed abdominal pain, required reintervention, or died. In the medically treated group, the false lumen was completely thrombosed and absorbed in 4 patients, partially thrombosed in 2, and patent in 2. All stents were patent with the false lumen completely thrombosed and absorbed in the endovascular group.

Conclusions: SIDCA can be treated medically in stable patients but requires intensive follow-up. Endovascular therapy can be applied in high-risk patients with recurrent symptoms, visceral malperfusion, or aneurysm. Open surgery should be considered if endovascular repair is not suitable or has failed. The short-term results of endovascular management are encouraging but further evaluation with long-term follow-up is necessary.

Introduction: Gastric cancer (GC) burden is currently evolving with regional differences associated with complex behavioural, environmental, and genetic risk factors. The LEGACy study is a Horizon 2020-funded multi-institutional research project conducted prospectively to provide comprehensive data on the tumour biological characteristics of gastroesophageal cancer from European and LATAM countries.

Material And Methods: Treatment-naïve advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma patients were prospectively recruited in seven European and LATAM countries.

Recently, a new bacterial disease was detected on cucumber stalks. In order to study the pathogenesis of this disease, the pathogenic bacteria were isolated and identified on the basis of morphological and molecular characteristics, and further analyzed for pathogenicity and antagonistic evaluation. Pathogenicity analysis showed that HlJ-3 caused melting decay and cracking in cucumber stems, and the strain reisolated from re-infected cucumber stalks was morphologically identical to HlJ-3 colonies, which is consistent with the Koch's postulates.

Morphological characterization of retinal development from birth to adulthood via retinal thickness assessment in mice: a systematic review.

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, University of Montréal, Montréal, Canada; Research Center, CHU Sainte-Justine University Hospital Centre, Montréal, Canada; Department of Radiology, Radio-oncology and Nuclear Medicine, University of Montréal, Montréal, Canada. Electronic address:

The morphology and thickness of the retinal layers are valuable biomarkers for retinal health and development. The retinal layers in mice are similar to those in humans; thus, a mouse is appropriate for studying the retina. The objectives of this systematic review were: (1) to describe normal retinal morphology quantitatively using retinal layer thickness measured from birth to age 6 months in healthy mice; and (2) to describe morphological changes in physiological retinal development over time using the longitudinal (in vivo) and cross-sectional (ex vivo) data from the included studies.

In this study, the role of a transition metal complex in improving hydrolysis efficiency during nanocellulose production was analysed. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) were extracted from date seeds by incorporating a copper metal complex during HCl hydrolysis. In contrast to traditional HCl hydrolysis at moderate conditions, which yielded only microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), this approach resulted in the extraction of CNCs with a 10 % improved yield compared to MCC.
