We demonstrate supramolecular pathway selection of a perylenediimide derivative in aqueous solution using chemically fueled redox reactions to control assembly/disassembly cycles. The number and frequency of cycles affect the nucleation and growth process, providing control over the size and internal order of the resulting self-assembled structures.

Precise sub-Ångstrom-level porosity engineering, which is appealing in gas separations, has been demonstrated in solid carbon, polymer, and framework materials but rarely achieved in the liquid phase. In this work, a gas molecular sieving effect in the liquid phase at sub-5 Ångstrom scale is created via sophisticated porosity tuning in calixarene-derived porous liquids (PLs). Type II PLs are constructed via supramolecular complexation between the sodium salts of calixarene derivatives and crown ether solvents.

High transductive loss at tissue injury sites impedes repair. The high dissipation characteristics in the electromechanical conversion of piezoelectric biomaterials pose a challenge. Therefore, supramolecular engineering and microfluidic technology is utilized to introduce slide-ring polyrotaxane and conductive polypyrrole to construct stress-electric coupling hydrogel microspheres.

Significant progress has been achieved with diversity of short peptide supramolecular assemblies. However, their programmable phase modulation by single stimulus remains a great challenge. Herein, we demonstrate a dipeptide supramolecular system undergoes sequentially coupled phase transitions upon hydrogen bonding association and dissociation triggered by a single fatty acid.

Metastable supramolecular polymerization under kinetic control has recently been recognized as a closer way to biosystem than thermodynamic process. While impressive works on metastable supramolecular systems have been reported, the library of available non-covalent driving modes is still small and a simple yet versatile solution is highly desirable to design for easily regulating the energy landscapes of metastable aggregation. Herein, we propose a coopetition-driven metastability strategy for parallel/perpendicular aromatic stacking to construct metastable supramolecular polymers derived from a class of simple monomers consisting of lateral indoles and aromatic core.
