Colloidal dispersions are known to display a fascinating network of cracks on drying. We probe the fracture mechanics of free-standing films of aqueous polymer-particle dispersions. Thin films of the dispersion are cast between a pair of plain steel wires and allowed to dry under ambient conditions. The strain induced on the particle network during drying is relieved by cracking. The stress which causes the films to crack has been calculated by measuring the deflection of the wires. The critical cracking stress varied inversely to the two-thirds' power of the film thickness. We also measure the velocity of the tip of a moving crack. The motion of a crack has been modeled as a competition between the release of the elastic energy stored in the particle network, the increase in surface energy as a result of the growth of a crack, the rate of viscous dissipation of the interstitial fluid and the kinetic energy associated with a moving crack. There is fair agreement between the measured crack velocities and predictions.

The ternary complex effectively prevents droplet aggregation, Ostwald ripening, and phase separation through its gel network, thereby demonstrating its capability in bioactive compound delivery. In this work, the influence of varying chickpea protein isolate (CPI) levels on the microstructure, gel characteristics, stability and functional properties of grape seed proanthocyanidin (GSP) and konjac gum (KGM) stabilized ternary complexes was investigated. Visual appearance indicated the formation of a non-stratified ternary complex as the CPI enhanced to 3-4 %.

The electrical conductivity and antibacterial properties are crucial characteristics for bacterial cellulose (BC) based membranes to be broadly applied in the field of wearable electronics. In the study, to achieve these aims, alpha-lipoic acid (LA) was utilized as anchoring groups and reducing agent, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) capped magnetic particles (FeO NPs) and the in-situ formed silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were sequentially incorporated into the BC matrix to fabricate BC based nanocomposite membranes (HP-β-CD/FeO/LA@BC and HP-β-CD/FeO/LA/Ag@BC). Fourier transform attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) analysis proved the dense networks were formed in the modified BC membranes.

Infectious microbes can spread rapidly from fomites (contaminated surfaces) via hand touch, with prolonged residence time on surfaces increasing transmission risk by extending exposure periods and/or involving more susceptible individuals. Existing studies have focused on decreasing microbial contamination, but not on the need for rapid removal from surface systems. This study introduces residence time as the time that a microbe spends within the surface system.

According to the physical characteristics of cotton and the work characteristics of cotton pickers in the field, during the picking process, there is a risk of cotton combustion. The cotton picker working environment is complex, cotton ignition can be hidden, and fire is difficult to detect. Therefore, in this study, we designed an improved algorithm for multi-sensor data fusion; built a cotton picker fire detection system by using infrared temperature sensors, CO sensors, and the upper computer; and proposed a BP neural network model based on improved mutation operator hybrid gray wolf optimizer and particle swarm optimization (MGWO-PSO) algorithm based on the BP neural network model.

Aeromagnetic surveying technology detects minute variations in Earth's magnetic field and is essential for geological studies, environmental monitoring, and resource exploration. Compared to conventional methods, residence time difference (RTD) fluxgate sensors deployed on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer increased flexibility in complex terrains. However, measurement accuracy and reliability are adversely affected by environmental and sensor noise, including Barkhausen noise.
