Published: March 2016

A high-surface-area mesoporous carbon material has been synthesized using a self-templating approach via reduction of carbon tetrachloride by sodium potassium alloy. The advantage is the reduction-generated salt templates can be easily removed with just water. The produced mesoporous carbon has a high surface area and a narrow pore size distribution. When used as a supercapacitor electrode, this material exhibits a high specific capacitance (259 F g(-1)) and excellent cycling performance (>92% capacitance retention for 6000 cycles).

Strong confinement of hydrogen is important for adsorption-based hydrogen storage solutions, which are vital for the transition toward a hydrogen-based economy. The dynamics of hydrogen adsorbed in high-porosity TiC-derived carbon with relatively well-stacked graphenic layers for a carbide-derived carbon is investigated with inelastic and quasi-elastic neutron scattering methods. Both the para-ortho rotational transition and elastic incoherent scattering factor are investigated.

Metabolite analysis of body fluids is an advanced method for disease diagnosis and status assessment. Laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) has been widely employed for metabolic analysis due to the fast detection speed and simple sample pretreatment. Here, we designed and synthesized hollow mesoporous carbon nanospheres anchored with Ni (HMCSs/Ni) to simultaneously enhance the ionization and thermal desorption processes of the LDI process owing to their hollow and mesoporous structure, large surface area, and abundant Ni-N bonds.

Integrated Three-in-one to Boost Nitrate Electroreduction to Ammonia Utilizing a 1D Mesoporous Carbon Cascade Nanoreactor.

ACS Nano

March 2025

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Fiber Materials, College of Materials Science and Engineering, Institute of Functional Materials, Donghua University, Shanghai 201620, China.

The electrochemical reduction of nitrate (NO) offers a promising waste-to-value strategy for synthesizing ammonia (NH), yet it involves a complex multi-interface system with several stages such as mass transport, species enrichment, and interfacial transformation. This complexity necessitates catalysts with diverse structural characteristics across multiple temporal and spatial scales. Herein, a three-in-one nanoreactor system is designed with 1D geometry, open mesochannels, and synergistic active sites for optimized NH synthesis.

Robust Tertiary Amine Suspended HCIPs for Catalytic Conversion of CO into Cyclic Carbonates under Mild Conditions.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

March 2025

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Guangdong Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center of Key Material for High Performance Copper Clad Laminate, Dongguan University of Technology, Dongguan 523808, China.

A series of tertiary amine suspended hyper-cross-linked ionic polymers (HCIPs), characterized by a rich mesoporous structure, high ionic liquid (IL) density, and good CO adsorption capability, were readily prepared via a postsynthetic method. The self-polymerization of 1,3,5-tris(bromomethyl) benzene (TBB) or its copolymerization with 4,4'-bis(bromomethyl) biphenyl (BBP) in varying ratios, followed by grafting with ,,','-tetramethyl-1,3-propanediamine (TMPDA), yielded the target TMPDA-HCIPs. These HCIPs constitute one of the limited categories of heterogeneous water-tolerant catalyst types ever developed for the cycloaddition reaction between CO and epoxides.

We report that self-supporting mesoporous platinum 3D nanowires with a single diamond (SD) morphology and a high specific surface area of 40.4 m g demonstrated enhanced stability toward the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). These were found to be superior to commercially available carbon-supported Pt nanoparticles (Pt/C).
