The Syncardia™ total artificial heart (TAH) is an option for patients as a bridge to transplant in those who are not candidates for left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) due to right ventricular failure. Postoperative course is highly dependent on volume status and aggressive diuresis is often necessary. One complication from aggressive diuresis is hypokalemia; however, in these patients we tolerate a lower potassium level because cardiac arrhythmias are not a concern. However, in two separate instances non-cardiac symptoms related to severe hypokalemia occurred. These symptoms included nystagmus in one patient and agitation, tremors, and having an "out-of-body" experience in the other patient. Both these patients had resolution of symptoms with potassium replacement.
Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a cognitive decline and attention deficit that can occur in patients after cardiac surgery. Despite extensive research identifying the risk factors, POD often remains undiagnosed and untreated in medical settings. Background: No data compare newer-generation transcatheter heart valves (THVs) in terms of next-day discharge (NDD) following transfemoral (TF) transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).
Aims: We aimed to evaluate the safety of NDD in unselected patients who received ACURATE (neo/neo2), Evolut (PRO/PRO+/FX) and the SAPIEN (3/Ultra) THVs.
Methods: This multicentre registry included patients who underwent TF-TAVI without a preprocedural permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) and were discharged the next day without a new PPI.
Objective: To study the clinical features and laboratory parameters of neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) from India.
Patients And Methods: We analyzed case records of children diagnosed with NLE in the Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic at tertiary care centre from North India during the period January 1999 - December 2023.
