The impedance of dodecane doped with sorbitan trioleate (Span 85), sorbitan monooleate (Span 80) and sorbitan monolaurate (Span 20) was measured as a function of frequency using a 10 mV amplitude sinusoidal voltage applied across a parallel plate cell with a 10 μm spacing. The tested solutions varied in concentration from 1 mM to 100 mM and the frequency range was 10(-2)-10(4) Hz. Nyquist plots of all three surfactants showed the high frequency semicircle characteristic of parallel resistance and capacitance but often exhibited a second semicircle at low frequencies which was attributed to charge adsorption and desorption. The electrical conductivity of each surfactant was proportional to surfactant concentration for concentrations above 10mM. Fitting the data to models for charge migration, differential capacitance, and adsorption allowed extraction of both charge concentration and two kinetic parameters that characterize the rate of adsorption and desorption. Above 10 mM the ratio of charge carriers per surfactant molecule was 22 ppm for Span 20, 3 ppm for Span 80, and 0.2 ppm for Span 85. A higher number of charge carriers per molecule of surfactant was associated with larger micelles. The adsorption rate constants were independent of surfactant concentration while the desorption rate constants were proportional to the surfactant concentration. This dependence indicated that uncharged surfactant, whether in micelles or not, participated in the desorption of charge. Predictions of the adsorption/desorption model for large constant electric fields agreed qualitatively with data from the literature (Karvar et al., 2014).

Direct air capture of CO using amino acid absorbents, such as glycine or sarcosine, is constrained by the relatively slow mass transfer of CO through the air-aqueous interface. Our recent study showed a marked improvement in CO capture by introducing CO-permeable oligo-dimethylsiloxane (ODMS-MIM) oligomers with cationic (imidazolium, MIM) headgroups. In this work, we have employed all-atom molecular dynamics simulations in combination with subensemble analysis using network theory to provide a detailed molecular picture of the behavior of CO and the glycinate anions (Gly) at the ODMS-MIM decorated air-aqueous interfaces.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the surface roughness and color stability of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) with those of conventional interim prosthetic materials like polymethylmethacrylate, bis-acrylic composite, and rubberized diurethane dimethacrylate, following immersion in solutions of varying pH value.
Materials And Methods: A total of 320 circular discs with 10 mm diameter and 2 mm height were divided based on the fabrication ( = 80)-group A: polymethylmethacrylate; group B: bis-acrylic composite; group R: rubberized diurethane; and group P: hot-pressed PEEK-and were subjected to baseline measurement of roughness ( = 40) and color ( = 40) using 3D profilometer and UV-Vis spectrophotometer, respectively. Later, 10 samples from each group were immersed in distilled water, black coffee, green tea, and Pepsi, respectively, for 120 days, and measurements of roughness and color were repeated.

A novel synthesis of a nanometric MCM-41 from biogenic silica obtained from rice husk is here presented. CTABr and Pluronic F127 surfactants were employed as templating agents to promote the formation of a long-range ordered 2D-hexagonal structure with cylindrical pores and to limit the particle growth at the nanoscale level thus resulting in a material with uniform particle size of 20-30 nm. The physico-chemical properties of this sample (RH-nanoMCM) were investigated through a multi-technique approach, including PXRD, Si MAS NMR, TEM, -potential and N physisorption analysis at 77 K.
