Background: Simultaneous fractures of C1 and C2 are increasingly common, but contemporary series are limited in their evaluation.
Methods: All patients with traumatic fractures of both C1 and C2 admitted to an academic trauma center from 2012 to 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Multivariable regression was used to identify characteristics relevant to management and outcomes.

Aging is associated with an increased risk of fragility fractures at the hip, resulting from a loss of bone mass. While this loss is typically reported as a decreased mean areal bone mineral density (aBMD) in the proximal femur or the femoral neck, its evolution is spatially inhomogeneous, which might also contribute to the increased risk of fractures. Yet, little is known about the evolution of BMD distribution and cortical thickness with age in the proximal femur.

Bone regeneration is mediated by skeletal stem/progenitor cells (SSPCs) that are mainly recruited from the periosteum after bone injury. The composition of the periosteum and the steps of SSPC activation and differentiation remain poorly understood. Here, we generated a single-nucleus atlas of the periosteum at steady state and of the fracture site during the early stages of bone repair (https://fracture-repair-atlas.

Many injuries to the cervical spine can be treated conservatively. Treatment options include early functional, mobilizing and immobilizing procedures. If a structural injury can be ruled out by morphological imaging, early functional mobilization should be performed in combination with adequate analgesia according to the World Health Organization (WHO) step by step scheme to avoid chronification.

Objective: Fractures of the atlas are typically considered stable or unstable based on the integrity of the transverse ligament. Whereas stable Jefferson burst fractures can be treated nonoperatively, unstable fractures with disruption of the transverse ligament often require surgical intervention. Atlas osteosynthesis has been proposed as a motion-preserving alternative to atlantoaxial fusion.
