The most aggressive type of brain tumor is glioblastoma multiforme, which to date remains incurable. Thuja occidentalis is used in homeopathy for the treatment of cancer, however, its mechanism of action remains unknown. We set out to study the effects of thujone fractions of Thuja on glioblastoma using in vitro and in vivo models. We found that the α/ β-thujone fraction decrease the cell viability and exhibit a potent anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic and anti-angiogenic effects in vitro. In vivo assays showed that α /β-thujone promotes the regression of neoplasia and inhibits the angiogenic markers VEGF, Ang-4 and CD31 into the tumor.

Objectives: In this study, we explored the efficacy of methanolic extract of Thuja orientalis (TOME) as a novel antibacterial and antibiofilm agent against a cariogenic bacterium, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212.

Design: Antibacterial susceptibility studies were conducted and surface morphology analysis was performed using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Antibiofilm activity was evaluated through both qualitative and quantitative biofilm inhibition assays and validated by microscopic analysis.

Culex pipiens mosquitoes are the primary vector of the West Nile virus worldwide and have a wide distribution. To avoid the development of resistance in insect pests to conventional synthetic pesticides, there have been many attempts to study botanical pesticides. The increasing resistance of insect pests to synthetic pesticides is a threat to the diversity of ecosystems, which makes the study of botanical pesticides all the more important.

We investigated the biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC) emission rates and composition of Cupressaceae species and how the emissions change in response to moderate warming and more severe heat stress. A total of 8 species from 7 distinct Cupressaceae genera were targeted in this study and exposed to laboratory-simulated heatwaves. Each plant was enclosed in a temperature-controlled glass chamber and allowed to equilibrate at 30 °C for 24 h.

An estimated 2000 plant species have been employed for pest control worldwide. The use of these botanical derivatives is thought to be one of the most cost-effective and sustainable options for pest management in stored grain. The present study was designed to assess the efficacy of five plant extracts viz; L.
