We explore how Latiné immigrant-origin youth used and made sense of media to enact their civic identities during the 2020 US presidential election cycle. In a polarized national context, this project highlights the voices and experiences of the participants (n=39). We conducted and analysed semi-structured interviews to identify three comprehensive themes.

Monitoring platelet aggregation is crucial for predicting thrombotic diseases and identifying the risk of bleeding or resistance to antiplatelet drugs. This study developed a microfluidic device to measure platelet activation with high sensitivity. By controlling exposure time through repeated reinjections, the device enables the detection of subtle changes in platelet activity influenced by lifestyle factors, such as alcohol consumption.

Background: In 2022, the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) published a Clinical Practice Statement (CPS) which provided an overview of bariatric surgery and related procedures, a discussion on gastrointestinal hormones and a review of the microbiome as it relates to patients with obesity. This update to the 2022 OMA CPS provides a focus on nutrition as it relates to the adult bariatric surgery patient, incorporating a detailed discussion on how to conduct a bariatric nutrition assessment and manage patients seeking metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) and postoperative nutrition care. In particular, the section on macronutrients, micronutrients, and bariatric surgery has been updated, highlighting practical approaches to nutrient deficiencies typically encountered in the bariatric surgery patient.

The complex formation of the cationic stilbene-type photoswitch CP with the anionic macrocycles carboxylato-pillar[5]arene (WP5) and carboxylato-pillar[6]arene (WP6) has been investigated in aqueous solution by optical spectroscopic, NMR and isothermal calorimetric experiments and theoretical calculations. Subsequently, the photoisomerization reactions of the supramolecular complexes formed have been studied. CP consists of a 7-diethylamino-coumarin fluorophore and an -methylpyridinium unit, which are connected via an ethene bridge.

As unexpected adverse events and successful drug repositioning have shown, drug effects are complex and include aspects not recognized by developers. How can we understand these unrecognized drug effects? Drug effects can be numerized by encompassing biological responses to drugs. For instance, the transcriptome data of cultured cells and toxicopathological images of mice treated with a compound represent the effects of the compound in vitro and in vivo, respectively.
