The presence of Polysorbate 80 in samples can challenge liquid chromatography-electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS) analysis as it is easily ionised and detected. In this study, we demonstrate that interference from Polysorbate 80 can be reduced by complexation with a metal ion followed by precipitation by thiocyanate. The precipitation procedure was tested on a mixture of low molecular weight compounds (e.g. amino acids and non-amino organic acids) and it was shown that none of the tested compounds were precipitated.

In hospitals, IV bags can be prepared in advance for logistical and microbial safety reasons in a compounding unit and then transported to wards. Transport of protein drugs using a pneumatic tube system has been reported to result in high particle levels. In this study, pneumatic tube transport of trastuzumab in saline polyolefin bags was compared to delivery by hospital porters using an electric platform truck in an underground tunnel system.

Buffer exchange is a critical step in biologics development, playing a pivotal role in removing contaminants, adjusting sample conditions, and facilitating compatibility studies. The efficiency of centrifugal concentrators for polysorbate removal was compared to a two-step approach involving a surfactant removal column followed by buffer exchange. Trastuzumab-pkrb from Herzuma® was used.

In the present study, the effectiveness of two surfactants (Polysorbate 80 - Tween 80 and Sodium Dodecyl Benzensulphonate - SDBS) was investigated for the remediation of a hydrocarbon-contaminated soil. Moreover, it was elucidated the impact of surfactants on soil phosphorus (P) availability and phytotoxic effect on the growth of Vicia Faba L. An experimental laboratory-scale apparatus (bench and pilot scale) was set up for the simulation of a soil flushing intervention.

The emission of hydrophobic Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is a serious environmental issue. Typically, biofilters (BFs) are employed for their treatment, with the potential enhancement of mass transfer through the addition of surfactants. However, disparate results in previous studies have been observed, attributed to uncontrolled conditions during the introduction of surfactants to BFs.
