Glioma is a type of tumor derived from glial cells, which is associated with a high level of incidence and mortality. At present, the generation of a fast and efficient method to evaluate the malignancy grade of glioma is required. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are currently attracting attention in oncological studies; therefore, the present study aimed to investigate novel biomarkers of glioma CSCs, in order to provide new criteria for the grading of glioma. The mRNA expression levels of CD133, (sex determining region Y)-box 2, nestin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) were detected in 15 human samples of high-malignancy glioma and 12 human samples of low-malignancy glioma . The mRNA expression levels of VEGF and PI3K were higher in the high-malignancy group, as compared with in the low-malignancy group. In conclusion, the mRNA expression levels of VEGF and PI3K in glioma CSCs may be considered a novel criteria for the grading of glioma.

Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a major cause of childhood blindness worldwide, highlighted by retinal neovascularization. Ubiquitin is present throughout the retina. The deubiquitinating enzyme ubiquitin-specific protease 39 (USP39) has been reported to be involved in angiogenesis.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) affects about one-third of patients with diabetes and can lead to end-stage renal disease despite numerous trials aimed at improving diabetic management. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) represent a new frontier in DN research, as increasing evidence suggests their involvement in the occurrence and progression of DN. A growing body of evidence suggests that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) in DN signaling pathways might serve as novel biomarkers or therapeutic targets, although this remains to be fully explored.

Purpose: The incidence of Functional Dyspepsia (FD) is gradually increasing, yet there are currently no effective treatment methods available. This study explored the effective components, potential targets, and pathways of Shi-San-Wei-He-Zhong-Wan (SSWHZW) in the treatment of FD, aiming to provide new insights into its treatment.

Methods: First, the Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP) and GeneCards databases were utilized to identify the major active components of SSWHZW and potential therapeutic targets of FD.

Skin flap transplantation is a conventional wound repair method in plastic and reconstructive surgery, but infection and ischemia are common complications. Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has shown promise for various medical problems, including wound repair processes, due to its capability to accelerate angiogenesis and relieve inflammation. This study investigated the effect of red and blue light on the survival of random skin flaps in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-infected Sprague Dawley (SD) rats.
