Lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) are caused by lysosomal dysfunction usually as a consequence of deficiency of a single enzyme required for the metabolism of macromolecules, such as lipids, glycoproteins, and mucopolysaccharides. For instance, the lack of α-galactosidase A (GLA) activity in Fabry disease patients causes the accumulation of glycosphingolipids in the vasculature leading to multiple organ pathology. Enzyme replacement therapy, which is the most common treatment of LSD, exhibits several drawbacks mainly related to the instability and low efficacy of the exogenously administered therapeutic enzyme. In this work, the unprecedented increased enzymatic activity and intracellular penetration achieved by the association of a human recombinant GLA to nanoliposomes functionalized with Arginine-Glycine-Aspartic acid (RGD) peptides is reported. Moreover, these new GLA loaded nanoliposomes lead to a higher efficacy in the reduction of the GLA substrate named globotriasylceramide in a cellular model of Fabry disease, than that achieved by the same concentration of the free enzyme. The preparation of these new liposomal formulations by DELOS-SUSP, based on the depressurization of a CO2 -expanded liquid organic solution, shows the great potential of this CO2 -based methodology for the one-step production of protein-nanoliposome conjugates as bioactive nanomaterials with therapeutic interest.

The present study has evaluated different soybean genotypes to understand the salt and drought tolerance mechanisms based on physiological traits (photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, chlorophyll, and cell membrane stability), antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and peroxidase), reactive oxygen species (HO and O ), osmolytes (glycine betaine, proline, and Na/K), plant water relations (relative water content, water potential, and solute potential) and expression of related genes (, , , , , , , and ). The experiment was conducted in a two-factorial arrangement using randomized complete block design (RCBD) with genotypes as one factor and salt, drought, and control treatments as the other factor. All physiological traits, relative water content, and water potential decreased significantly in all soybean genotypes due to individual and combined treatments of drought and salt stress, with significantly less decrease in soybean genotypes G4620RX, DM45X61, and NARC-21.

Fish visceral waste, which is normally discarded, is considered one of the richest sources of proteinases with potential biotechnological applications. For this reason, alkaline proteinases from viscera of Argentine hake Merluccius hubbsi, Brazilian flathead Percophis brasiliensis, Brazilian codling Urophycis brasiliensis, and stripped weakfish Cynoscion guatucupa were characterized. Individuals were caught by a commercial fleet off the coast of the Argentinean Sea.

Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is an important antigen in the tumor microenvironment, which plays a crucial role in promoting extracellular matrix remodeling and tumor cell metastasis. A circulating form of soluble FAP has also been identified in the serum, becoming a biomarker for pan-cancer diagnosis and prognosis. However, the current peptide substrate-based enzymatic activity detection or antibody-dependent detection methods have been hindered by insufficient selectivity and complex operations, so it is valuable to develop effective nucleic acid aptamers as FAP affinity ligands.
