Objective: To establish a method for simultaneously determining the urinary concentrations of 8 carbamate pesticides.
Methods: After being purified by acetonitrile precipitation, urine samples were transferred to a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry system, and the concentrations of 8 carbamate pesticides were determined by external standard method. A C18 column was used for ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography; methanol/ammonium acetate solution was used as the mobile phase for gradient elution; the mass spectrometer was operated in a multi-reaction monitoring mode.
Results: The calibration curves were linear when the urinary concentrations of these carbamate pesticides were 20~800 µg/L, and the recovery rates were 61.0%~121% at spiked levels of 20, 200 and 800 µg/L, with a relative standard deviation of 1.7%~5.5%.
Conclusion: This determination method meets the Guide for establishing occupational health standards-part 5: Determination methods of chemicals in biological materials, and can be used for simultaneous determination of 8 carbamate pesticides in the urine of poisoning patients.

Insecticide resistance escalation is decreasing the efficacy of vector control tools. Monitoring vector resistance is paramount in order to understand its evolution and devise effective counter-solutions. In this study, we monitored insecticide resistance patterns, vector population bionomics and genetic variants associated with resistance over 3 years from 2021 to 2023 in Uganda.

Background: The Anopheles funestus group includes at least 11 sibling species, with Anopheles funestus Giles being the most studied and significant malaria vector. Other species, like Anopheles parensis, are understudied despite their potential role in transmission. This article provides insights into the biology and insecticide susceptibility of An.

Butyrylcholinesterase plays an indispensable role in organisms, and its abnormal expression poses a significant threat to human health and safety, covering various aspects including liver-related diseases, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, toxic substances such as organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides markedly inhibit BChE activity. BChE activity serves as a critical parameter for the clinical diagnosis of acute organophosphorus pesticide poisoning and the evaluation of organophosphorus and carbamate pesticide residues.

The construction of a nanozyme-enzyme hybrid cascade system is an effective protocol to optimize the performance of biosensors. Yet, the integration has limitations due to the lack of harmonious collaboration between nanozyme and enzyme. Herein, we have constructed an efficient enzymatic cascade system by utilizing the base complementary pairing and the targeting capability of DNA tweezers to combine DNA-regulated copper nanoflowers (CuNFs) with acetylcholinesterase (AChE).

Numerous studies in Iraq have attempted to determine blood cholinesterase (ChE) activities with varying results in agricultural workers and veterinarians exposed to pesticides. This meta-analysis answers the specific inquiry of whether or not blood ChE activities decrease in agricultural workers exposed previously to pesticides. The meta-analysis included 14 records of blood ChE activities extracted from 12 studies after employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA).
