A recent publication shows that, during their domestication and spread from Equatorial South America, circadian rhythms of tomatoes have been modified. The modifications have resulted in tomato plants that are adapted to growing under the long day conditions characteristic of summers at higher latitudes.

Forecast of total health expenditure on China's ageing population: a system dynamics model.

BMC Health Serv Res

December 2024

Western Sydney University, School of Computer, Data and Mathematical Sciences, Sydney, Australia.

Background: China is currently at a turning point as its total population has started to decline, and therefore faces issues related to caring for an ageing population, which will require an increase in Total Health Expenditure (THE). Therefore, the ability to forecast China's future THE is essential.

Methods: We developed two THE System Dynamics (SD) models using Stella Architect 3.

By spending 3-5 years in a single location studying for their second degree, OMFS trainees often put down domestic roots which they are reluctant to pull up to complete their training elsewhere. The universities at which OMFS specialists/trainees obtained their second degrees were assembled using the General Medical Council's OMFS specialist list, the General Dental Council's Dental Register and a database of OMFS trainees and consultants. The second degrees of 818 past and current OMFS specialists/trainees were analysed.

CO intensity is a valuable indicator for investigating the amount of CO emissions prevented by importing relative to the economic costs the importer pays for international trade; this plays a significant role in mitigating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. This study explores the effect of importing on the CO intensity of the construction industry by establishing an analytical framework that divides the total CO intensity into aggregate CO intensity in imported products (AII) and aggregate CO intensity in domestic products (AID), and targets the gap between AII and AID to reveal the effects of importing. A multi-regional input-output model was adopted to evaluate the AII and AID of the construction industries in 15 economies for 2014 and then the LMDI method was used to decompose the gap between AII and AID from the perspective of the source industry.
