Background: High response rates are needed in population-based studies, as nonresponse reduces effective sample size and bias affects accuracy and decreases the generalizability of the study findings.
Objective: We tested different strategies to improve response rate and reduce nonresponse bias in a national population-based COVID-19 surveillance program in England, United Kingdom.
Methods: Over 19 rounds, a random sample of individuals aged 5 years and older from the general population in England were invited by mail to complete a web-based questionnaire and return a swab for SARS-CoV-2 testing.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are significant global health issues. This study utilized data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 to analyze trends in incidence, prevalence, and Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALY) associated with HDP across 204 countries from 1990 to 2021. The analysis employed estimated annual percentage changes and an age-period-cohort model, stratifying data by age, year, geographical region, and sociodemographic index (SDI).

Background: Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) plays a critical role in regulating androgen bioavailability and has been hypothesized to influence prostate cancer risk, though existing evidence is inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between SHBG levels and prostate cancer risk.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for studies published up to December 1, 2024.

Over the past 40 years, the introduction and refinement of hydroxyurea therapy has led to remarkable progress for the care of individuals with sickle cell anemia (SCA). From initial small proof-of-principle studies to multi-center Phase 3 controlled clinical trials and then numerous open-label studies, the consistent benefits of once-daily oral hydroxyurea have been demonstrated across the lifespan. Elevated fetal hemoglobin (HbF) serves as the most important treatment response, as HbF delays sickle hemoglobin polymerization and reduces erythrocyte sickling.

This study aims to analyze the trends in breast cancer incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) across different age groups from 1990 to 2021, and to project the mortality rate for the next decade.
Methods: Global breast cancer data were analyzed, focusing on three distinct age groups: 15-49 years, 50-69 years, and 70+ years.
