Concentrations, spatial distribution, and sources of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), listed as priority pollutants by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), were investigated in surface soils of three different coal stockpile, agricultural, and residential sites in South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. Total PAHs concentration ranged from 4.69 to 22.67 mg kg(-1)-dw. PAHs concentrations in soil of coal stockpile sites were higher than those in agricultural and residential soil. A complex of petrogenic origin and pyrolytic sources was found within the study area, as suggested by the isomeric ratios of PAHs. The results of principal component analysis and multiple linear regressions (PCA/MLR) showed that three sources contributed to the PAHs in the study area, including biomass and coal combustion (48.46%), raw coal (35.49%), and vehicular emission (16.05%). The high value of total benzo[a]pyrene equivalent concentration (B[a]Peq) suggests that local residents are exposed to a high carcinogenic potential.

Dust emissions from open-pit mining pose a significant threat to environmental safety and human health. Currently, the range of dust suppressants used in coal mining is limited, often failing to account for their suitability across various stockpiles. This oversight results in poor infiltration after application, leading to insufficient crust formation and reduced durability.

Coal mines generate significant amounts of dust during production, transportation, and stockpiling, leading to health hazards and environmental pollution. To address the inefficiencies and environmental impact of current chemical dust suppressants, a novel dust suppressant was developed utilizing cellulose derived from Napier grass (NG), modified through carboxymethylation, and supplemented with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyacrylamide (PAM). Orthogonal experiments identified the optimal ratio of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), PAM, PVA, and octyl phenol polyoxyethylene ether (JFC-1) as 1:0.

Slow oxidation of coal during storage and transportation poses significant risks, making it essential to identify hot spots and understand the heat generation and gas production patterns in coal stockpiles. This study leverages the advantages of adiabatic oxidation experiments, which account for time effects, to accurately describe the low-temperature oxidation process of coal through warming and gas production dimensions. Additionally, the warming and gas production patterns of three-dimensional coal stockpiles with varying stacking parameters were investigated.

Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI FA) contains many harmful substances, such as heavy metals, which pose a great threat to the ecological environment. Its proper disposal is an urgent environmental problem that needs to be addressed. The large number of goaf areas in China's mines provides a new approach for MSWI FA treatment.

Stockpiled coke is prone to wind-blowing emissions, leading to economic losses and environmental pollution which imposes severe threats to human health. While various polysaccharide-based dust suppressants have been explored to resolve this issue, they often suffer from ineffective control of wettability, poor coverage, and suppression effect in extreme weather conditions, and require additional use of cross-linking agents and surfactants due to their weak interaction with coke. Herein, we present coke dust suppressants comprising polyethyleneimine (PEI), starch, and glycerol to address these shortcomings.
