Background: Several methods for blindly positioning bronchial blockers (BBs) for one-lung ventilation (OLV) have been proposed. However, these methods do not reliably ensure accurate positioning and proper direction. Here, we developed a clinically applicable two-stage maneuver by modifying a previously reported one-stage maneuver for successful insertion of a BB at the appropriate depth and direction in patients requiring lung isolation where a flexible bronchoscope (FOB) is not applicable.

Purpose: International guidelines for management of acute biliary pathology recommend emergency cholecystectomy (EmC), citing improved outcomes compared to elective cholecystectomy (ElC) based on trials which may not reflect the capacity constraints in clinical practice, nor selection based on multiple prior attendances with emergency biliary pathology or attendances following a decision for ElC. We therefore conducted a longitudinal retrospective study evaluating all attendances with biliary pathology prior to cholecystectomy with the aim of assessing whether EmC is justified in this context.
Methods: Data was collected on patients undergoing cholecystectomy between 2016 and 2021 at four centres.

Ireland is the largest beef trader and a major dairy exporter within the European Union. Horse racing holds significant cultural value, while greyhound racing is economically important at the regional level. As public concern about farm animal welfare rises and biodiversity loss intensifies, this research examines the political salience of animal protection in Ireland across the 2011, 2016, and 2020 general elections.
