Multiple Kernel Point Set Registration.

IEEE Trans Med Imaging

Published: June 2016

The finite Gaussian mixture model with kernel correlation is a flexible tool that has recently received attention for point set registration. While there are many algorithms for point set registration presented in the literature, an important issue arising from these studies concerns the mapping of data with nonlinear relationships and the ability to select a suitable kernel. Kernel selection is crucial for effective point set registration. We focus here on multiple kernel point set registration. We make several contributions in this paper. First, each observation is modeled using the Student's t-distribution, which is heavily tailed and more robust than the Gaussian distribution. Second, by automatically adjusting the kernel weights, the proposed method allows us to prune the ineffective kernels. This makes the choice of kernels less crucial. After parameter learning, the kernel saliencies of the irrelevant kernels go to zero. Thus, the choice of kernels is less crucial and it is easy to include other kinds of kernels. Finally, we show empirically that our model outperforms state-of-the-art methods recently proposed in the literature.

In this study, a new reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography method using two detectors was developed for the analysis of degradation and process impurities of ivabradine in pharmaceutical preparations. A PDA detector set to 285 nm wavelength and a QDa detector set to positive scan mode were used in the method. In the developed method, the separation process was carried out in a Zorbax phenyl column with a gradient application of a 0.

Objective: To develop an automatic segmentation model to delineate the adnexal masses and construct a machine learning model to differentiate between low malignant risk and intermediate-high malignant risk of adnexal masses based on ovarian-adnexal reporting and data system (O-RADS).

Methods: A total of 663 ultrasound images of adnexal mass were collected and divided into two sets according to experienced radiologists: a low malignant risk set (n = 446) and an intermediate-high malignant risk set (n = 217). Deep learning segmentation models were trained and selected to automatically segment adnexal masses.

Context: The two-dimensional graphene/MoTe heterostructure holds extensive potential applications in optoelectronic devices, sensors, and catalysts. To expand its optical applications, this study systematically investigates the adsorption stability of metal atoms (Au, Pt, Pd, and Fe) on the graphene/MoTe and their influence on its optoelectronic properties employing first-principles methods. The findings indicate that after the adsorption of Au and Pd, the structure retains its direct bandgap properties, while the adsorption of Pt and Fe exhibits indirect bandgap characteristics.

Recent single-cell experiments that measure copy numbers of over 40 proteins in individual cells at different time points [time-stamped snapshot (TSS) data] exhibit cell-to-cell variability. Because the same cells cannot be tracked over time, TSS data provide key information about the time-evolution of protein abundances that could yield mechanisms that underlie signaling kinetics. We recently developed a generalized method of moments (GMM) based approach that estimates parameters of mechanistic models using TSS data.

This study investigates climate change impacts on spontaneous vegetation, focusing on the Mediterranean basin, a hotspot for climatic changes. Two case study areas, Monti Sibillini (central Italy, temperate) and Sidi Makhlouf (Southern Tunisia, arid), were selected for their contrasting climates and vegetation. Using WorldClim's CMCC-ESM2 climate model, future vegetation distribution was predicted for 2050 and 2080 under SSP 245 (optimistic) and 585 (pessimistic) scenarios.
