Background: Auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation is a technique where part of diseased native liver is removed and replaced with healthy donor liver so that, the left behind native liver could later regenerate.

Case Characteristics: 2 year 6 month old girl with acute liver failure due to Hepatitis A. She underwent a successful auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation.

Outcome: Successful native liver regeneration and immunosuppression withdrawal after two and half years of surgery.

Message: In selective cases of acute liver failure, auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplantation could provide a chance for native liver regeneration and immunosuppression-free life.

Post-Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE) cholangitis is one of the most common complications that has a negative impact on liver function and native liver survival. Early diagnosis and judicious empiric antimicrobial management are, therefore, important to prevent further liver damage and decompensation. However, there is no consensus regarding the standard definition of post-KPE cholangitis, and established guidelines on evaluation and management are also lacking.

Background: Patients after kidney transplantation (KTx) in childhood show a high prevalence of cardiac complications, but the underlying mechanism is still poorly understood. In adults, myocardial fibrosis detected in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is already an established risk factor. Data for children after KTx are not available.

Alagille syndrome (ALGS) is a rare, cholestatic multiorgan disease associated with bile duct paucity, leading to cholestasis. Clinical symptoms of cholestasis include debilitating pruritus, xanthomas, fat-soluble vitamin deficiencies, growth failure, renal disease and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The main objective was to review the current literature on the epidemiological, clinical, psychosocial and economic burden of ALGS in view of the development of ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT) inhibitors.
