Bilateral and symmetric isolated dorsospinal arteries with prominent anterior radiculomedullary contribution.

Published: February 2016

We present the case of a 15-year-old girl with a left T7 spinal epidural arteriovenous fistula (SEAVF), in whom bilateral and symmetric isolated T9 dorsospinal arteries (DAs) were incidentally documented, each providing a significant contribution to the anterior spinal artery. Recognizing the existence of isolated DAs of direct aortic origin is critical, both for the diagnostic evaluation and for the management of spinal vascular diseases. Notably, isolated DAs tend to branch off significant radiculomedullary arteries, which vascularize the normal spinal cord but have also been shown to supply spinal vascular malformations.

Hoffmann syndrome, a rare manifestation of hypothyroid myopathy in adults, is characterised by muscle weakness, stiffness and pseudohypertrophy. Here, we report the case of a middle-aged man who presented with progressive weakness in proximal muscles (in the form of difficulty in climbing stairs, rising from a seated position, combing hair and lifting objects) and leg swelling for 6 months. Physical examination revealed pseudohypertrophy of calf muscles with pronounced symmetric weakness in proximal upper and lower limbs.

Objectives: Serum galectin-3 (sGal-3) is a protein present in renal tubules and increases in experimental rodent models of acute kidney injury. The aim of this study was to compare sGal-3 concentrations in healthy cats and cats with ureteral obstruction (UO).

Methods: This was a retrospective study.

Background/purpose: Autologous dentin materials are among the most promising bone substitutes for preventing osseous defects on the distal side of the lower second molar. This study aimed to investigate the effects of autologous demineralized dentin matrix on postoperative complications and wound healing after lower third molar surgery.

Materials And Methods: Thirteen patients with bilateral symmetrical lower third molars participated in this split-mouth randomized clinical trial.

Enthesitis related arthritis (ERA) is a specific type of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and ERA typically begins with enthesitis and peripheral arthritis in the lower extremities, progressing later in the disease to sacroiliitis and spinal involvement. The condition has a strong relationship with the HLA-B27 and primarily affects boys between the ages of 13 and 16 years. We describe an unusual presentation of ERA in a young boy with pubic pain and fever, describing its quintessential magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings.
