We demonstrate postselection free heralded qubit amplification for Time-Bin qubits and single photon states in an all-fibre, telecom-wavelength, scheme that highlights the simplicity, stability and potential for fully integrated photonic solutions. Exploiting high-efficiency superconducting detectors, the gain, fidelity and the performance of the amplifier are studied as a function of loss. We also demonstrate the first heralded single photon amplifier with independent sources. This provides a significant advance towards demonstrating device-independent quantum key distribution as well as fundamental tests of quantum mechanics over extended distances.
Objective: Remote identification of individuals with severe hyposmia may enable scalable recruitment of participants with underlying alpha-synuclein aggregation. We evaluated the performance of a staged screening paradigm using remote smell testing to enrich for abnormal dopamine transporter single-photon emission computed tomography imaging (DAT-SPECT) and alpha-synuclein aggregation.
Methods: The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) recruited participants for the prodromal cohort who were 60-years and older without a Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
To (1) assess the accuracy of the Uscom BP+ oscillometric upper-arm professional blood pressure (BP) monitor in children and adolescents as per the AAMI/ESH/ISO Universal Standard (ISO 81060-2:2018); (2) assess the suitability of a non-standard cuff; and (3) assess the impact of motion artefact on device accuracy and precision. Children and adolescents were recruited to fulfil the sex/cuff distribution criteria of the Universal Standard. Single arm sequential BP measurements were used, the test device measured on deflate with an altered child/adolescent algorithm, using three standard (Extra Small, Small Adult, Adult) and, as exploratory analysis, additionally in one non-standard cuff (Wide Range; WR) (arm circumferences: 12-17, 16-24, 22-32, 22-42 cm, respectively).
Spinning coding masks, recognized for their fast modulation rate and cost-effectiveness, are now often used in real-time single-pixel imaging (SPI). However, in the photon-counting regime, they encounter difficulties in synchronization between the coding mask patterns and the photon detector, unlike digital micromirror devices. To address this issue, we propose a scheme that assumes a constant disk rotation speed throughout each cycle and models photon detection as a non-homogeneous Poisson process (NHPP).
Holographically designed aperiodic lattices (ALs) have proven to be an exciting engineering technique for achieving electrically switchable single- or multi-frequency emissions in terahertz (THz) semiconductor lasers. Here, we employ the nonlinear transfer matrix modeling method to investigate multi-wavelength nonlinear (sum- or difference-) frequency generation within an integrated THz (idler) laser cavity that also supports optical (pump and signal) waves. The laser cavity includes an aperiodic lattice, which engineers the idler photon lifetimes and effective refractive indices.
