The method allowed simultaneous characterization of PAHs, nitro-PAHs and quinones in atmospheric particulate matter. This method employs a miniaturized micro-extraction step that uses 500 μL of an acetonitrile-dichloromethane mix and instrumental analysis by means of a high-resolution GC-MS. The method was validated using the SRM1649b NIST standard reference material as well as deuterated internal standards. The results are in good agreement with the certified values and show recoveries between 75% and 145%. Limit of detection (LOD) values for PAHs were found to be between 0.5 pg (benzo[a]pyrene) to 2.1 pg (dibenzo[a,h]anthracene), for nitro-PAHs ranged between 3.2 pg (1-nitrobenzo[e]pyrene) and 22.2 pg (3-nitrophenanthrene), and for quinones ranged between 11.5 pg (1,4-naphthoquinone) and 458 pg (9,10-phenanthraquinone). The validated method was applied to real PM10 samples collected on quartz fiber filters. Concentrations in the PM10 samples ranged from 0.06 to 15 ng m(-3) for PAHs, from

Air pollution is strongly associated with autoimmune diseases (ADs), however, the genetic causality between them remains poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the relationship between common air pollutants and ADs through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We conducted a MR study using aggregated data from publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Background: Epidemiological studies have consistently demonstrated a robust association between long-term exposure to air pollutants and respiratory diseases. However, establishing causal relationships remains challenging due to residual confounding in observational studies. In this study, Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to explore the causal and epigenetic relationships between various air pollutants and common respiratory diseases.

In late March to early April 2024, an unusually high amount of sand dust was wind-blown to Europe from the Sahara Desert. Most of mainland Europe was affected by these sand dust particles. As a result, Central Europe experienced an exceptionally high increase in air pollution.

A triple signal amplified electrochemical aptasensor for the detection of bisphenol A (BPA) was developed for the first time based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), hemin/G-quadruplex DNAzyme, and exonuclease I (Exo I) assisted amplification strategies. The BPA aptamer (Apt) hybridized with the capture probe (CP) was fixed on the gold electrode (GE) to form the double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) structure. When BPA was present, the Apt was detached from the GE surface by specific recognition between the BPA and Apt, forming BPA-Apt complexes in solution.

In this work, a DNPH doped PDMS based membrane was developed to facilitate carbonyl compound derivatization. This membrane delivers DNPH in presence of carbonyl compounds to form hydrazones. Subsequently, the resulting hydrazones are preconcentrated, separated and detected by in-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled on-line with capillary liquid chromatography (CapLC) with Uv-Vis diode array detection (DAD).
