Aims: The purpose of this study was to explore the role of TNF-like ligand 1A (TL1A) gene (TNFST15) polymorphisms (rs3810936, rs7848647, and rs6478109) in the generation of ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

Methods: Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing were used to conduct the genotyping of TNFSF15 polymorphisms in 113 AS patients and 120 healthy persons as the case and control groups. The frequencies comparison was performed by chi-square or t test between the two groups. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were calculated to represent the correlation between TNFSF15 polymorphism and AS. Besides, genotypes distribution of the former in controls was checked by Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE).

Results: There was statistically significant difference in AS patients and controls based on family history. Among TNFSF15 polymorphisms, only TT genotype frequency of rs3810936 in cases was obviously high, compared with the controls (P=0.04), the results indicated that TT was a high-risk genotype (OR=2.31, 95% CI=1.03-5.20). However, both of rs6478109, rs7848647 polymorphisms didn't show any association with AS.

Conclusion: Rs3810936 of TNFSF15 were related to the risk of AS and we should pay more attention to the role of TNFSF15 polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of AS in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates a genetic variant (rs6478109) in a specific gene associated with Crohn's disease (CD) and how it relates to intestinal fibrosis in Chinese patients.
  • - Results showed that patients with the GG genotype of this variant had a higher frequency of stricturing CD and higher expression of pro-fibrotic proteins compared to those with AA or AG genotypes.
  • - The findings suggest that the GG genotype could be a predictive marker for the progression of stricturing CD and highlights its role in promoting fibrosis-related protein expression.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and psoriasis are both chronic autoimmune diseases with a unique set of characteristics. Interestingly, both conditions share considerable overlap in their pathophysiological mechanisms and immune dysregulation. Epidemiological studies validate the relationship by showing a greater prevalence of co-occurrence of the two disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates gene-environment interactions related to Crohn's disease (CD) among the Chinese population, focusing on specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in T helper 17 (Th17) pathway genes.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 159 CD patients and 316 healthy controls, finding that certain SNP alleles were less common in CD patients compared to controls, with notable interactions between these genes and environmental factors like breastfeeding and sun exposure impacting disease aspects.
  • - The findings enhance understanding of the genetic factors contributing to CD in Chinese populations and suggest that including these SNPs in predictive models could improve risk and outcome assessments for the disease.

Background/aim: Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is the most common gynecological cancer, but lacks specific targetable markers. In order to explore the immune-related molecules that affect the progression and prognosis of EC, we analyzed the differential expression of genes in different histological grades of the disease.

Materials And Methods: EC-related gene-expression data of different histological grades were downloaded from TCGA and GEO databases.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in Egyptian females. Polymorphisms in the angiogenesis pathway have been implicated previously in cancer risk and prognosis. The aim of the current study was to determine whether certain polymorphisms in the genes of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), vascular endothelial growth inhibitor (VEGI), and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1A) associated with breast cancer development.
