Echocardiographic classification of dogs with aortic stenosis: potential utility of a novel staging system.

J Vet Cardiol

December 2024

Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital, University of Bristol, Langford, Bristol, BS40 5DU, United Kingdom; Eastcott Referrals, Edison Park, Swindon, SN3 3FR, United Kingdom.

Introduction: Severity of aortic stenosis (AS) in humans is classified using a staging system based on two-dimensional echocardiographic changes, which considers the extent of global cardiac damage. Currently, classification of canine AS is based on trans-aortic pressure gradient (PG) alone. This study aimed to retrospectively classify dogs with AS based on an adapted human staging system, exploring feasibility of classification and the association between stage and features such as PG and clinical signs.

Quantum memory at nonzero temperature in a thermodynamically trivial system.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Department of Physics and Center for Theory of Quantum Matter, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA.

Passive error correction protects logical information forever (in the thermodynamic limit) by updating the system based only on local information and few-body interactions. A paradigmatic example is the classical two-dimensional Ising model: a Metropolis-style Gibbs sampler retains the sign of the initial magnetization (a logical bit) for thermodynamically long times in the low-temperature phase. Known models of passive quantum error correction similarly exhibit thermodynamic phase transitions to a low-temperature phase wherein logical qubits are protected by thermally stable topological order.

Objectives: Numerous studies have demonstrated impaired right ventricular (RV) synchronicity in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). However, few studies have focused on connective tissue disease (CTD)-associated PAH. This study evaluates RV dyssynchrony and its prognostic value in CTD-associated PAH.

Interfacial solar evaporator generation (ISVG) is a new, cost-effective, and eco-friendly emerging method for water desalination. Two main criteria for evaluating ISVG performance are evaporation rate () and solar-to-vapor conversion efficiency (η). The main challenge of the previously presented models for the estimation of and η in 2D systems is that in most cases the calculated values are beyond the theoretical limits, > 1.

PATHOMORPHOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UTERUS IN COMBINED ADENOMYOSIS AND MYOMA.

Georgian Med News

October 2024

Azerbaijan Medical University, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology II, Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Aim Of The Study: to examine the pathomorphological and clinical characteristics of the uterus in the combined form of fibroids and adenomyosis.

Methods: The research work was conducted within the framework of the scientific program of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology II at Azerbaijan Medical University for the years 2021-2024. In the course of this study, a comprehensive clinical, laboratory, and instrumental prospective examination was conducted on 113 patients aged 30 to 50 years (mean age 42,0±1,8 years) with combined adenomyosis and uterine fibroids.
