In observational studies, estimation of average causal treatment effect on a patient's response should adjust for confounders that are associated with both treatment exposure and response. In addition, the response, such as medical cost, may have incomplete follow-up. In this article, a double robust estimator is proposed for average causal treatment effect for right censored medical cost data. The estimator is double robust in the sense that it remains consistent when either the model for the treatment assignment or the regression model for the response is correctly specified. Double robust estimators increase the likelihood the results will represent a valid inference. Asymptotic normality is obtained for the proposed estimator, and an estimator for the asymptotic variance is also derived. Simulation studies show good finite sample performance of the proposed estimator and a real data analysis using the proposed method is provided as illustration. The development of mechanically robust super-lubrication hydrogel materials with sustained lubricity at high contact pressures is challenging. In this work, inspired by the durable lubricity feature of the earthworm epidermis, a multilevel structural super-lubrication hydrogel (MS-SLH) system, the so-called lubricant self-pumping hydrogel, is developed. The MS-SLH system is manufactured by chemically dissociating a double network hydrogel to generate robust and wrinkled lubrication layer, and then laser etching was used to generate cylindrical texture pores as gland-like pockets for storing lubricants.

Background: Patients with substance use disorder (SUD) are frequently hospitalized and readmitted. Hospitalization is an opportunity for treatment initiation, including medications for alcohol (MAUD) and opioid use disorder (MOUD). Addiction consult teams are one model for increasing hospital-based SUD treatment.

This study presents a novel optimization algorithm known as the Energy Valley Optimizer Approach (EVOA) designed to effectively develop six optimal adaptive fuzzy logic controllers (AFLCs) comprising 30 parameters for a grid-tied doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) utilized in wind power plants (WPP). The primary objective of implementing EVOA-based AFLCs is to maximize power extraction from the DFIG in wind energy applications while simultaneously improving dynamic response and minimizing errors during operation. The performance of the EVOA-based AFLCs is thoroughly investigated and benchmarked against alternative optimization techniques, specifically chaotic billiards optimization (C-BO), genetic algorithms (GA), and marine predator algorithm (MPA)-based optimal proportional-integral (PI) controllers.

Changing land use is one of the main factors influencing global climate change and the imbalance in the carbon cycle. Consequently, the focus of international organizations and the academic community is on strategies to mitigate carbon emissions or improve carbon sequestration by optimizing land use structure and function. Since 2019, China's Zhejiang Province has implemented a township-level pilot policy, exploring a comprehensive land consolidation (CLC for short) pilot policy that includes all elements of "mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands.

DNA methylation-based age estimation from semen: Genome-wide marker identification and model development.

Forensic Sci Int Genet

December 2024

Department of Forensic Medicine, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei 430030, PR China. Electronic address:

DNA methylation at age-related CpG (AR-CpG) sites holds significant promise for forensic age estimation. However, somatic models perform poorly in semen due to unique methylation dynamics during spermatogenesis, and current studies are constrained by the limited coverage of methylation microarrays. This study aimed to identify novel semen-specific AR-CpG sites using double-enzyme reduced representation bisulfite sequencing (dRRBS) and validate these markers, alongside previously reported sites and neighboring CpGs, using bisulfite amplicon sequencing (BSAS) to develop robust age estimation models.
