Dermatol Surg

Institute of Macroscopic and Clinical Anatomy, Medical University of Graz, Graz, Austria.

Published: February 2016

Background: The facial artery is said to be the main vessel for the blood supply of the anterior face. However, its course is quite often not as described in the textbooks.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to find out the different courses of the facial artery, its anastomoses, and its position in relation to the fat compartments of the face.

Materials And Methods: With 60 hemifaces three-dimensional reconstructions with computed tomography, cross dissections and horizontal sections were performed.

Results: Of note, 4 types of facial arteries were identified. Not even half of the specimens showed a textbook course of the facial artery and only a quarter of the specimens had a textbook course of the artery on both sides.

Conclusion: To know the different appearances of the facial artery can be helpful for filler injection in aesthetic medicine but also for planning flaps in reconstructive surgery.

Characterizing biomarkers of ageing in Singaporeans: the ABIOS observational study protocol.

Geroscience

January 2025

Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Singapore, Singapore.

Ageing is the primary driver of age-associated chronic diseases and conditions. Asian populations have traditionally been underrepresented in studies understanding age-related diseases. Thus, the Ageing BIOmarker Study in Singaporeans (ABIOS) aims to characterise biomarkers of ageing in Singaporeans, exploring associations between molecular, physiological, and digital biomarkers of ageing.

Treatment-emergent central sleep apnea in patients treated with a mandibular advancement device.

Sleep Med

January 2025

CHU Angers, Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, F-49933, Angers, France; Univ Angers, Faculty of Medicine, F-49000 Angers, France.

Objectives: Treatment-emergent central sleep apnea (TECSA) is well established in continuous positive airway pressure therapy but was barely studied in mandibular advancement device (MAD) treatment. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of TECSA in patients treated with a MAD and to determine its risk factors and clinical relevance.

Materials And Methods: A total of 139 patients from the IRSR Pays de la Loire Sleep Cohort suffering from snores or obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and treated with a custom-made titratable MAD were included.

Background: Liver transplant (LT) patients face various challenges, including an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) for a variety of reasons, with 70% of LT recipients having one cardiovascular event. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains one of the most commonly performed major surgical procedures in the United States, with 20-30% of LT patients requiring a CABG. Many studies have analyzed when to perform a CABG and CAD workup pre-LT, but this population remains a problem.

The aim of this study is to investigate the use of the temporoparietal fascial flap (TPFF) in the repair of tissue defects in the head and neck region. TPFF is a preferred method among surgeons due to its thin and flexible structure and its strong vascular structure supplied by the superficial temporal artery. In the study, the operations performed on a total of 21 patients and the results of these operations were analyzed.
