The quadratic regression model is popular and effective in describing a wide variety of data, but it is based on a function whose parameters are not easy to interpret. We suggest an alternative form of the quadratic model that has the same expectation function, but also has the useful feature that its parameters are interpretable. Examples are provided of a simple regression problem and also of a nonlinear mixed-effects model. The models can be estimated with available software.

The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between slaughter weight (SW) with body components and liner body measurements and investigate the coefficient of correlation between slaughter weight with body component and liner body measurements to select the best regression equation. Data on liner body measurements (height at wither and at hips, heart girth, body length, height and width of hump, height at fall and hind legs, body sheath height, height at hooks, barrel circumference, width of face, length of face and tail circumference) and slaughter weight of body components (Hot Carcass Weight (HCW), Empty Body Weight (ESW), Internal Offal (IO) and External Offal (EO)) were collected from 62 Hararghe cattle at Haramaya University abattoir. ESW was calculated as SW with less gut contents.

Background: Heavy alcohol consumption is associated with increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), with mixed evidence suggesting a dose‐dependent nonlinear effect of alcohol on ADRD. Potential mechanisms by which alcohol may promote or attenuate brain pathology need further exploration. Although chronic alcohol consumption associates with gut microbiome alterations, it remains unclear whether microbial alterations mediate alcohol‐associated neurodegeneration and cognitive decline.

Background: While the association between sleep quality and brain health is well established, the role of aging in this relationship is largely unknown. This study aimed to examine the interaction between sleep and age on cortical thickness using samples from large‐scale cohort studies. Age was examined in both linear and non‐linear (quadratic) terms, in order to determine the presence of critical age ranges that may exhibit more significant sleep‐related brain structural changes.

Background: We aimed to investigate the association between maternal caffeine intake during pregnancy and asthma in children by 10 years of age.
Methods: We considered 5585 mother-child pairs enrolled in a population-based birth cohort. Consumption of regular and decaffeinated coffee, black and green tea, and cola beverages before and during pregnancy was obtained through face-to-face interviews within 72 h after giving birth, and total caffeine intake (mg/day) was estimated.

Background: Plasma amyloid‐beta (Aβ) 42/40 ratio and phosphorylated tau 181 (pTau181) are promising blood biomarkers for AD. Compared to heterogenous clinical phenotypes, they are more objective and proximal to the pathological hallmarks of Aβ plaques and tau tangles. Biomarker‐guided clustering using Aβ42/40 and pTau181 can potentially establish subpopulations that share similar mechanisms of AD and treatment responses.
