Extensive human exposure to food- and cosmetics-related consumer products containing nanosilver is of public concern because of the lack of information about their safety. Genotoxicity is an important endpoint for the safety and health hazard assessment of regulated products including nanomaterials. The in vitro cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay is a very useful test for predictive genotoxicity testing. Recently, we have reported the genotoxicity of 20 nm nanosilver in human liver HepG2 and colon Caco2 cells evaluated using the CBMN assay. The objective of our present study was three-fold: (i) to evaluate if HepG2 and Caco2 cells are valuable in vitro models for rapid genotoxicity screening of nanosilver; (ii) to test the hypothesis that the nanoparticle size and cell types are critical determinants of its genotoxicity; and (iii) to determine if ionic silver contributes to the nanosilver genotoxicity. With these objectives in mind, we evaluated the genotoxic potential of 50 nm nanosilver of the same shape, composition, surface charge, obtained from the same commercial source, under the same experimental conditions and the same genotoxic CBMN endpoint used for the previously tested 20 nm silver. The ionic silver (silver acetate) was also evaluated under the same conditions. Results of our study show that up to the concentrations tested in these cell types, the smaller (20 nm) nanosilver induces micronucleus formation in both the cell types but the larger (50 nm) nanosilver and the ionic silver provide a much weaker response compared with controls under the same conditions.

Silver nanoparticles are one of the most commonly used forms of silver (Ag) in nanotechnology applications due to their antibacterial properties and electrical and thermal resistance. The increasing production and use of products containing nanoparticles has led to their release into and contamination of soil and water. This review summarizes the literature on the fate, behavior (adsorption/desorption, precipitation/oxidative dissolution, transformation), and transport/mobility of Ag forms in soils (Ag ions and Ag nanoparticles-AgNPs).

The present study investigated the catalysis of Lupeol-loaded chitosan nanoparticles infused with NiAgO nanoparticles to create a NiAgO/Lup@CS nanocomposite. Recent advances in nanomaterials with unique architectures and functionalities have successfully treated contaminated soil and industrial wastewaters. Consequently, a lupeol@chitosan nanoparticle loaded with NiAgO was created, and its catalytic effectiveness in degrading industrial dye pollution was examined.

NaAlCl is an established solid electrolyte in high-temperature Na-based battery systems, but its ionic conductivity is not sufficiently high for room-temperature applications. We employ density functional theory and thermodynamic corrections to evaluate the efficacy of various elements for substitution, utilizing on-the-fly machine-learned potentials to accelerate the required phonon calculations by 1 order of magnitude at a minor error of -0.7 ± 1.

Thin films of PbS, both undoped and cobalt-doped (Co-PbS), were produced on glass substrates using the straightforward and controllable approach of sequential ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR). The reactive substances employed to deposit the PbS thin films were lead nitrate (Pb(NO)), cobalt nitrate (Co(NO₃)₂(H₂O)₆), sodium thiosulphate (NaSO) and HO for different dipping concentrations of lead and cobalt. The films were adherent to the substrate and were compact, and crack-free with a shiny silver color.

N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was determined using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based electrochemical sensor. Green-synthesized silver nanoparticles were functionalized with cysteamine to enhance their integration into the electrode surface, which was used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Furthermore, a MIP-based electrochemical sensor was constructed via electropolymerization of 3-aminophenyl boronic acid (3-APBA) as a conjugated functional monomer in the presence of lithium perchlorate (LiClO) solution as a dopant, chitosan as a carrier natural polymer, and NDMA as a template/target molecule.
