Starting from the description of an innovator's suggestion (registration number: 172097), the author deals with the use of suitable anterior matrixes made of aluminium foil. Practical experience and clinical results with the filling material Frontasil recommend the technique described for wide use.

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is an invaluable technique that has been used for many decades for the separation of various molecules. The reproducible collection of eluates from these systems has been significantly improved via its automation by fraction collection systems. Current commercially available fraction collectors are not easily customizable, incompatible with other platforms, and come with a large cost barrier making them inaccessible to many researchers.

Article Synopsis
  • A life cycle assessment evaluated the environmental impacts of polyethylene (PE) packaging compared to alternatives like paper, glass, aluminum, and steel in the U.S.
  • The study focused on five packaging applications and assessed various environmental impacts such as global warming potential (GWP), energy use, resources, and water scarcity.
  • Findings show that substituting PE for other materials can decrease life cycle GWP emissions by about 70%, offering significant benefits for packaging sustainability.

Pantograph-based electrical current transmission systems are used in electric traction vehicles. The contact surface between the pantograph and the catenary wire experiences mechanical and thermal effects during the train's movement. Typically, this contact surface on the pantograph is covered by a segmented carbon or copper rod, attached to an aluminum base.

In the Czochralski single-crystal silicon manufacturing industry, single-crystal furnaces often experience corrosion from silicon vapor, which reduces their operational lifespan. However, the preparation of metal coatings on the surface of C/C composites is challenging due to their low coefficient of thermal expansion and the intricate structure of carbon fibers. To address this issue and achieve high-quality alloy coatings, Ni-Al and Ni-Al/Si composite coatings are successfully prepared on the surface of C/C composites through a combination of electroplating and hot-dip plating, and their oxidation behavior at elevated temperatures is thoroughly investigated.

Heat mitigation in basal compacted clay liners in municipal solid waste landfills.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

November 2024

Institute of Energy Infrastructure (IEI), Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Jalan Ikram-Uniten, 43000, Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia.

In municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills, biodegradation of the organic MSW fraction results in elevated waste and basal liner temperatures which have the potential to cause the clay component of the basal liner to experience severe moisture loss over time and eventually undergo desiccation cracking. Cracking of the basal liner's clay component would result in an uncontrolled release of contaminants into the surrounding environment and ultimately give rise to a variety of major environmental concerns. Accordingly, this study examined the variation of temperature-moisture profiles along the depth of a compacted clay liner (CCL) exposed to different constant elevated waste temperatures (CETs) in the absence and presence of two heat reduction techniques, respectively.
