In the Hallstatt salt mine (Austria), polyhalite rocks occur in 0.5-1 m thick and several metre long tectonic lenses within the protocataclasite to protomylonite matrix of the Alpine Haselgebirge Fm.. Thin section analysis of Hallstatt polyhalites reveals various fabric types similar to metamorphic rocks of crust-forming minerals, e.g. quartz and feldspar. Polyhalite microfabrics from Hallstatt include: (1) polyhalite mylonites, (2) metamorphic reaction fabrics, (3) vein-filling, fibrous polyhalite and (4) cavity-filling polyhalite. The polyhalite mylonites contain a wide range of shear fabrics commonly known in mylonitic quartzo-feldspathic shear zones within the ductile crust and developed from a more coarse-grained precursor rock. The mylonites are partly overprinted by recrystallised, statically grown polyhalite grains. Metamorphic reaction fabrics of polyhalite fibres between blödite (or astrakhanite) [NaMg(SO).4HO] and anhydrite have also been found. According to previous reports, blödite may occur primarily as nodules or intergrown with löweite. Reaction fabrics may have formed by exsolution, (re-)crystallisation, parallel growth or replacement. This fabric type was only found in one sample in relation with the decomposition of blödite at ca. 61 °C in the presence of halite or slightly above, testifying, therefore, a late stage prograde fabric significantly younger than the main polyhalite formation.

In this study, a novel hybrid nanostructure consisting of acid-decorated chitosan and magnetic AlFeO nanoparticles was fabricated. The acid-decorated chitosan provided a stable and biocompatible matrix for the magnetic AlFeO nanoparticles. Various techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), specific surface area (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize and confirm the successful synthesis of the hybrid nanostructure.

In this study, a novel tunnel structure vanadate NaVO (NaVO) cathode for aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) is facilely fabricated by thermal decomposition of polyoxovanadate containing NH ions. The NaVO cathode is characterized by abundant oxygen vacancies and nanometer dimensions. These attributes can offer extra reaction sites and suppress structural collapse during circulation.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) was evaluated as a promising technology for constructing photocatalytic reactors due to its inherent ability to produce complex geometries with high precision and customization. In this work, a 3D structure was designed to achieve a good light distribution inside a cylindrical batch reactor and printed using the stereolithography (SLA) technique. A hybrid material composed of a commercial photoreactive resin (Formlabs Clear V4) and the benchmark photocatalyst TiO P25 Evonik (1 wt%) was prepared and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and rheological and mechanical methods.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is an emerging antitumor strategy utilizing iron-initiated Fenton reaction to destroy tumor cells by converting endogenous HO into highly toxic hydroxyl radical (OH). However, the intratumoral overexpressed glutathione (GSH) and deficient acid greatly reduce CDT efficacy because of OH scavenging and decreased OH production efficiency. Even worse, the various physiological barriers, especially in glioma, further put the brakes on the targeted delivery of Fenton agents.
