Diagnosis of nevoid melanoma (NeM) is often difficult because NeM closely resembles a common nevus clinically and histologically. A retrospective study was conducted on 110 patients diagnosed with and/or treated for primary nevoid melanoma at the Veneto Institute of Oncology and at the University Hospital of Padua from August 1999. Mean Breslow thickness was of 1.

Background: Long-term use of oral or parenteral corticosteroids is the most common cause of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression and iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome. Still, iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome occurs rarely following the administration of topical corticosteroids.

Case Presentation: This case study discusses the misuse of a high-potency corticosteroid cream by an Iranian 5-year-old male with plaque-form psoriasis, resulting in Cushingoid symptoms including moon face, buffalo hump, red striae, and weight gain.

Article Synopsis
  • - Striae distensae (stretch marks) are a common skin issue, and cold laser therapy (LLLT) is explored for its healing benefits and lack of downtime compared to hot lasers like fractional carbon dioxide (FCO) laser.
  • - In a study with 30 patients, LLLT was found to be as effective as FCO laser for treating stria alba, although FCO laser had slightly better results, and the combined use of both therapies showed the least effectiveness.
  • - Patients receiving LLLT reported high satisfaction due to no downtime, but the requirement for weekly treatments could be seen as a drawback compared to the less frequent sessions with FCO laser.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on Oral Epithelial Dysplasia (OED), which often shows a lymphocytic/lichenoid immune response (LIR) that complicates diagnosis since it resembles lichenoid mucositis.
  • A total of 44 cases were analyzed, all presenting as well-defined hyperkeratotic plaques without the typical features found in lichenoid inflammation, and varying degrees of dysplasia were observed.
  • The findings highlight a potential diagnostic challenge due to the presence of lichenoid histological features in OED, suggesting that sharing clinical photographs with pathologists could improve diagnostic accuracy for biopsied lesions.

Dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy finding of different anatomic sites of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

Skin Res Technol

January 2024

Beijing Municipal Key Laboratory of Child Development and Nutriomics, Translational Medicine Laboratory, Capital Institute of Pediatrics, Beijing, China.

Background: Recognizing Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) might be a challenge due to its rarity. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and dermoscopy were emergent promising non-invasive technique as auxiliary tools in diagnosis of different skin conditions. However, the RCM and dermoscopic features of LCH had been less investigated.
