Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate whether histogram analysis of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of a solid tumor component could distinguish borderline ovarian tumors from ovarian carcinoma.
Materials And Methods: Sixteen pathologically proven borderline tumors and 21 carcinomas were retrospectively examined. Magnetic resonance (1.5-T) image data sets were coregistered, and the solid components of each tumor were semiautomatically segmented. ADC histograms of the solid components were extracted; modes, minimums, means, and 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentiles of the histograms were compared between the two tumor types, and receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed.
Results: The mode, minimum, mean, 10th, 25th, 50th, and 75th percentile ADC values of solid components of borderline tumors were significantly larger than those of carcinomas. Among these, the 10th percentile values had the lowest p value (p = 0.0003). At ROC analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) in the 10th percentile was the greatest (0.854), and the best cutoff value in the 10th percentile provided the highest specificity (93.8 %).
Conclusions: ADC histograms of solid tumor components facilitated the distinction between borderline ovarian tumors and carcinoma. The 10th percentile ADC values had the best diagnostic performance.

The mining industry produces a large amount of industrial solid waste every year. Among them, fly ash (FA), slag and tailings are the three main solid wastes, which can cause soil pollution, air pollution, water pollution and serious threat to human health if not handled properly. At present, the treatment methods of industrial solid waste mainly include direct landfill, recovery of high-value components, production of construction materials, etc.

There is a growing interest in natural preservatives driven by consumer demand for clean-label products. In Canada, approximately 48 million liters of blood are produced annually during chicken slaughter, offering an opportunity to valorize cruor, the solid blood component rich in hemoglobin, for use in food preservation. This study investigated the hydrolysis of chicken cruor with pepsin at pH 2, 3, 4, and 5 for 180 min to produce antimicrobial peptides.

We study the kinetics of vapor-liquid and vapor-solid phase separation of a hydrodynamics preserving three-dimensional one-component Lennard Jones system in the presence of an external gravitational field using extensive molecular dynamic simulation. A bicontinuous domain structure is formed when the homogeneous system near the critical density is quenched inside the coexistence region. In the absence of gravity, the domain morphology is statistically self-similar and the length scale grows as per the existing laws.

Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APL) arises from an aberrant chromosomal translocation involving the Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha (RARA) gene, predominantly with the Promyelocytic Leukaemia (PML) or Promyelocytic Leukaemia Zinc Finger (PLZF) genes. The resulting oncoproteins block the haematopoietic differentiation program promoting aberrant proliferative promyelocytes. Retinoic Acid (RA) therapy is successful in most of the PML::RARA patients, while PLZF::RARA patients frequently become resistant and relapse.

Objective: Among the different subtypes of invasive lung adenocarcinoma, lepidic predominant adenocarcinoma (LPA) has been recognized as the lowest-risk subtype with good prognosis. The aim of this study is to provide insight into the heterogeneity within LPA tumors and to better understand the influence of other sub-histologies on survival outcome.
Methods: Overall, 75 consecutive patients with LPA in pathologic stage I (TNM 8th edition) who underwent resection between 2010 and 2022 were included into this retrospective, single center analysis.
