Published: January 2016

The ability to make rapid and accurate predictions on bandgaps of double perovskites is of much practical interest for a range of applications. While quantum mechanical computations for high-fidelity bandgaps are enormously computation-time intensive and thus impractical in high throughput studies, informatics-based statistical learning approaches can be a promising alternative. Here we demonstrate a systematic feature-engineering approach and a robust learning framework for efficient and accurate predictions of electronic bandgaps of double perovskites. After evaluating a set of more than 1.2 million features, we identify lowest occupied Kohn-Sham levels and elemental electronegativities of the constituent atomic species as the most crucial and relevant predictors. The developed models are validated and tested using the best practices of data science and further analyzed to rationalize their prediction performance.

Figure-eight macrocycles represent a fascinating class of π-conjugated units characterized by unique aesthetics and non-contact molecular crossing at the center. Despite progress in synthesis over the past century, research into inorganic, organic, and polymeric figure-eight materials remains in its infancy. Here we report the first examples of figure-eight covalent organic frameworks by condensing figure-eight knots to create extended porous figure-eight π architectures.

We develop fs laser-fabricated asymmetric couplers and zig-zag arrays consisting of single- and two-mode waveguides with bipartite Kerr nonlinearity in borosilicate (BK7) glass substrates. The fundamental mode ( orbital) is near resonance with the neighboring higher-order orbital, causing efficient light transfer at low power. Due to Kerr nonlinearity, the coupler works as an all-optical switch between and orbitals.

Multidirectional strain sensors are of technological importance for wearable devices and soft robots. Here, we report that flexible materials capable of multidirectional anisotropic strain sensing can be constructed leveraging diffusion-induced infiltration of monomers and in situ polymerization of metal ion-containing double network hydrogels in and on the surface of micro-corrugated chiral nematic cellulose nanocrystal/glucose films. Integrating the micro-corrugated cellulose nanocrystal/glucose chiral nematic films with ionic conductive hydrogels of PAA-co-AAm/sodium alginate/Al endows the materials with multidirectional mechanoelectrical resistivity and mechanochromism anisotropy.

This work reports on the preparation process of a double-layer perovskite active layer. The first active layer film, CsKPEAPbIBr, was fabricated using a spin-coating method, while the second active layer, MAPbBr, was deposited using MAPbBr single crystals as the evaporation source. Additionally, doping the PEDOT: PSS hole transport layer with ETA and EDA can enhance the uniformity of the perovskite film and reduce voids, improving charge transport efficiency.

National Forestry and Grassland Administration Key Laboratory of Plant Fiber Functional Materials, College of Materials Engineering, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fuzhou 350002, China.

The unique benefits of nickel-aluminium layered double hydroxide (Ni-Al LDH)-based heterojunctions, including large surface area, tunable bandgap and morphology, abundant reaction sites, and high activity, selectivity, and photostability, make them extremely promising for photocatalytic applications. Given the importance and benefits of Ni-Al LDH-based heterojunctions in photocatalysis, it is necessary to provide a summary of Ni-Al LDH-based heterojunctions for photocatalytic applications. Hence, in this review, we thoroughly described the material design for Ni-Al LDH-based heterojunctions, along with their recent developments in various photocatalytic applications, , H evolution, CO reduction, and pollutant removal.
