The prevalence of mycotoxigenic Penicillium species in poultry houses of Telangana, India, was studied during 4 seasons between June 2009 and May 2010. Fungi belonging to 13 genera, including Penicillium, comprising 43 species were collected using petri plates. Fourteen Penicillium species demonstrated varying degrees of mycotoxigenicity. Chemical and chromatographic analysis of the different poultry feed samples revealed 8 different mycotoxins with ochratoxin A (OTA) predominating. The mean contamination rate of OTA was 38%. OTA quantities ranged between 5.78 and 6.73 µg/kg, 10.13 and 14.23 µg/kg, and 12.33 and 15.20 µg/kg in starter, broiler, and layer feeds, respectively. Statistically significant positive correlation between prevalence of Penicillium species and the monsoon, autumn, and spring seasons and negative correlation between prevalence and the autumn, spring, and summer seasons were observed. These findings may serve as risk exposure indicators and contribute toward the initiation of a sustainable control program.

Five new indole diterpenoids, shearinines U-Y (2-6), and the known compound 22,23-dehydro-shearinine A (1) were isolated from cultures of the entomogenous fungus sp. Their structures were elucidated primarily by NMR experiments. The absolute configurations of 2-6 were assigned by electronic circular dichroism calculations, respectively.

Airborne microorganisms in hospitals present significant health risks to both patients and employees. However, their pollution profiles and associated hazards in different hospital areas remained largely unknown during the extensive use of masks and disinfectants. This study investigated the characteristics of bioaerosols in an urban general hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and found that airborne bacteria and fungi concentrations range from 87±35 to 1037±275 CFU/m and 21±15 to 561±132 CFU/m, respectively, with the outpatient clinic and internal medicine ward showing the highest levels.

The research intended to explore the control ability of alginate oligosaccharide (AOS) on Penicillium expansum infection in pear fruit by priming response and its mechanism. The results showed that 100 mg L AOS treatment could significantly reduce the incidence of postharvest blue mold and the lesion diameter in pear fruits and maintain their quality. The defense responses induced by AOS treatment alone were relatively mild in pear fruits.

In this study, two compounds have been isolated from the Arctic-derived fungus INA 13460. Structural elucidation, performed using 2D NMR and HR-ESIMS data, has identified the compounds as stereoisomers of secalonic acids, dimeric tetrahydroxanthones. The absolute configurations of these stereoisomers have been determined through conformational NMR analysis and circular dichroism spectroscopy.
